Urban folk singer FETSUM was born in Egypt to Eritrean parents and grew up in Italy and Germany, where he currently lives. His songs - which combine traditional African rhythms with soul, reggae, folk and rock - bear testimony to that mix of experiences. He sang one of them, Waitin' for You, from his album The Colors of Hope, accompanied by guitarist Leon Schurz, for the BBC's Focus on Africa. Convinced by his pastor to enlist, Alvin York ends up fighting in Argonne and receives the highest honors, such as the Medal of Honor and Croix de Guerre, for his exploits. On the same day, not far from Argonne, the infantryman Joseph Oklahombi performs an exceptional feat of arms by taking 171 German soldiers as prisoners. Being a Native American from the Choctaw tribe in Oklahoma – who were not recognized as American citizens at that time but invited to enlist all the same – he never received the Medal of Honor. Without ever meeting, these two men become the symbol of courage that young American volunteers showed in WWI. Berlin-based musician Fetsum, of Eritrean origin, sings his autobiographical song "Egypt" - from his album The Colors of Hope - with guitarist Leon Schurz. Fetsum performs Egypt for the BBC World Service's Focus on Africa radio programme. In this guitar and vocals performance, Fetsum shows his soulful musical prowess. There's been growing anger among Ethiopians in and outside the country, about the way that some of their compatriots have been treated in Saudi Arabia. Things came to a head following an ultimatum for illegal migrant workers to leave the country. And there were clashes in Riyadh which led to several deaths last week.
