(History of Kingston, Jamaica) History of Kingston & St. Andrew Kingston Early Beginnings The parish of Kingston is the capital of Jamaica and it is located on the south-eastern end of the island. Until 1692, the parish of Kingston did not exist. Kingston came into existence in 1692 after a massive earthquake and it’s subsequent after effects, destroyed two thirds of Port Royal and killed about three thousand inhabitants. Survivors of the earthquake fled to the Liguanea Plains only to perish from exposure and disease. As a result, two weeks after Port Royal’s destruction, the government purchased two hundred acres of land known as “Colonel Barry’s Hog Crawle,” at a cost of £1000. I came up with this recipe for Plantain Porridge after a failed attempt at making fufu a couple weeks ago and  it turned out so good that I decided to do a video on how to prepare Plantain Porridge. Honestly I don't know how the thought of doing thing never occurred to me before but as they say, better late than never. I was also under the impression that I had stumbled upon something unique and original but as it turns out, Plantain Porridge is a staple in Nigerian, Jamaican and Haitian Cuisine. More than 200 people have been killed in a mine collapse in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, rebel authorities have said. The mine, in the town of Rubaya, gave way on Wednesday due to heavy rains, Lumumba Kambere Muyisa, spokesman for the North Kivu region's rebel governor, told reporters. At the time, the death toll remained unclear.
