Killing more people, a year than hurricanes, tornadoes and lightning, floods are one of the most feared disasters with the most traumatic effects. In 2011, over 2000 people lost their lives due to floods that were a result of a brutal monsoon season in Southeast Asia. India, Bangladesh and Nepal were struck in 2017, leaving 1,200 dead and millions homeless. International aid cut-off, evacuation hindered, and thousands of hectares of farmland washed away; these floods were truly devastating, the repercussions of which will be felt for years to come. Meanwhile in Houston, Texas, 9 trillion gallons of water fell from the sky in just two days. Its freeways are designed to act as rivers during flooding, so evacuating residents from a city run by cars would doom them to death by water.
