Apple is being heavily impacted by President Trump's new tariffs, which will affect its supply chain and manufacturing centers in several countries, including China, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Ireland. The tariffs will reach 34% for China, 27% for India, 46% for Vietnam, 24% for Malaysia, 37% for Thailand, and 20% for Ireland, threatening to disrupt Apple's global supply chain. Apple's stock fell 8.5% after the announcement, erasing $255 billion in market value, as investors worry about the impact on the company's bottom line. "In 1932 the Winter Games came to America for the first time, to Lake Placid. A multipurpose Olympic Centre was built specifically for the Games -- the first indoor arena ever used for the Winter Olympics. In 1980, the Olympic Games focused the world's attention once again on Lake Placid. In the original 1932 Olympic Centre, the US men's hockey team defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union in a match that became known as the "Miracle on Ice". But the legacy of the 1980 Games could well have been limited to some great memories and short-term improvements in infrastructure, if not for the creation of the Olympic Regional Delivery Authority in 1981. This organisation was set up to manage and promote the sports facilities used to host the 1980 Games, and has created an ongoing legacy that has reshaped the region's economy. Since then, Lake Placid has hosted an impressive 11 World Championships, and 60 World Cup events. Leading up to the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Games, Rosi Mittermaier was not one of the favourites to contest the medals. Although she was a downhill veteran who had competed on the World Cup circuit for ten years, she had never won a major downhill race. Her luck changed dramatically in Innsbruck. Mittermaier won the downhill by half a second to claim her first gold medal. Three days later she won the slalom event by a third of a second and was suddenly a double Olympic champion! The giant slalom was contested two days later and Mittermaier had the chance to become the first woman to sweep all three Alpine events. Unfortunately on the final run, Mittermaier made a mistake at one of the lower gates which cost her valuable time. Even so, she still managed to come second and won her third medal of the Games. The course of the marathon race for the London 1948 Olympic Games took a different approach to the one chosen for the London 1908 Olympics. While in 1908 the race went from the royal residence at Windsor Castle until the Olympic stadium in White City, this time, the race began and ended at Wembley stadium. Still, despite the changes, the excitement remained the same as seen during London's first Olympic experience. Out of the forty-one racers who started the race, Etienne Gailly of Belgium was the first one to enter the stadium for the final lap. However -- as had happened in the 1908 Olympics with Dorando Pietri -- Gailly arrived visibly exhausted and near to collapse. Having learnt from Dorando's story 40 years earlier, no one intervened to avoid the Belgian runner's disqualification. As soon as he reached the stadium, Argentinean athlete Delfo Cabrera - who had been following Gailly closely - took the lead of the marathon. Tom Richards from Great Britain was next to enter the stadium, overtake Etienne Gailly and attempt to challenge the leader, yet Cabrera remained strong to take gold. With the encouragement of the crowds, Gailly made it through the finish line in third, taking Olympic bronze in a superb effort. Eric Heiden is considered one of if not the greatest speed skater of all time. At the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games, Heiden won all five speed skating events from 500m all the way up to 10,000m, setting an Olympic record in every one. In the 1500m he almost fell halfway through, before recovering to win by 37 hundredths of a second. In his final 10,000m victory, Heiden broke the world record by 6.20 seconds. He was the first person in history to win five gold medals in the same Olympic Games - indeed he won every single event available. This impressive feat marked the pinnacle of Heiden's skating career. The youngster's impressive performance made her the youngest ever winter winner of an individual event. Raised in Sugarland, Texas, Tara Lipinski first attracted international attention when, at the age of 13, she qualified for the United States team at the 1996 world championships. She placed 15th, but the following year she caused a sensation when she finished first and became the youngest world champion in figure skating history. Still, when the 1998 Olympic Games came around, Lipinski was picked for the silver medal behind Michelle Kwan. Kwan led after the short programme, but Lipinski's exuberant long programme won her the first place votes of six of the nine judges and she edged ahead to take the gold medal. At the age of 15 years and 255 days, Lipinski became the youngest winner of an individual event in the history of the Winter Games, beating Sonja Henie's 70-year-old record by two months. Middle distance runner Steve Ovett gained some Olympic experience in 1976 when he ran in the final of the 800m and placed fifth. By the time of the 1980 Olympic Games, he was considered the favourite at 1,500m, while his British teammate, Sebastian Coe, was expected to win the 800m. The 800m final was run first. Ovett, in only sixth place at the halfway mark, pushed his way through the crowd to second place. Seventy metres from the finish, he shot into the lead and held off Coe to win by three metres. In the 1,500m, contested six days later, it was Coe who came from behind to win, while Ovett took home the bronze medal.
