Born in Mexico but of Kenyan origin | Here's the life of Lupita Nyongo'o
Made famous by her role in 2013's "Twelve Years a Slave", the elegant Lupita Nyong’o quickly rose to the rank of planetary superstar thanks to her participation in the "Star Wars" saga. With a unique sense of style, the pretty Mexican-Kenyan won over the general public faster than one could imagine

Lupita Nyong’o was born in Mexico on March 1, 1983. Of Kenyan origin, the young woman is named in fact Guadalupe, Lupita is the diminutive. A single role will have sufficed to make her the new darling of American cinema. She was awarded an Oscar for best actress in a supporting role for her portrayal of Patsey in "Twelve years a slave".
Since then, she has been appearing on magazine after magazine and is undoubtedly the new girl.
Her private life is a subject of fascination with the media, who have linked her romantically with Jared Leto and Michael Fassbender, her partner in Steve Mcqueen's film. But they are all rumors and it's hard for a star like her who is very private about her love life, to affirm who she is really in a relationship with.
She became a fashion icon after a marathon of sixty something red carpets during the five months of her promotional tour. She was chosen as the most beautiful woman in the world by the "People" magazine. She was also chosen by Miu Miu and Lancôme to embody their "worldwide" brands and suddenly she found herself in the center of a geopolitical feud after several nations claimed to be her birthplace, including Mexico, her country of birth, and Kenya, where her parents are from and where she grew up.
The two countries also dispute the etymology of her first name: for Mexicans, Lupita is the shortened version of Guadalupe. For Kenyans, this is the combination of Luo, from a Kenyan ethnic name meaning "to follow," and Peter, his father's first name.
But all the same, this "nice" quarrel is a little well founded, even understandable, because if she was for example a Franco-Malian, the French as well as the Malians would both fight over her.
At a young age, Lupita wanted to be an actress before she knew it was a profession. She locked herself in the toilet to create plays with her dolls while the other kids were riding their bikes. Her mother called her "my youngest in space" because she was always on the moon. At school, Lupita volunteered to participate in all the plays and, when there were none, she would create some herself and she would harass her friends to participate in them.
Her parents, Dorothy and Peter Anyang Nyong'o, were in political exile at her time of birth, but were able to return to their homeland of Kenya during her childhood. Her father then became a member of the country's Senate while her mother, who worked in the field of family planning, took a leadership position in the African Breast Cancer Foundation.
After taking theater classes and getting the lead role in a production of Romeo and Juliette, Lupita Nyong'o also returned to Mexico during her teenage years to learn Spanish. She went to college in the United States, studied at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts and graduated in Film in 2003.
On her return to Kenya during the summer vacation, Lupita Nyong'o discovered that the filming of the drama "The Constant Gardener" was taking place in her region. She joined the set as a production assistant and met Ralph Fiennes, who told her to become an actress only if it was something she couldn't imagine going without.
One of Lupita's favorite dishes, pilau, originated from India but is a popular dish in Kenya. It is a rice dish filled with spices like cinnamon and cumin but also of broth and goat meat, so it's definitely a balanced and hearty dish to savor after a long day of filming on the set.
Tropical and refreshing drink, Lupita loves to sip pineapple juice. It is filled with manganese and vitamin C. On the other hand, Lupita's breakfast consists of plantains, sweet potatoes and blueberries.
Lupita is a fan of super tasty and aromatic foods, so of course curry is her favorite meal for dinner - more specifically, cooked fish curry with coconut milk and cilantro. She "likes whole fish" so surely she is a boning pro.
