While attending the repass for the late Ms. Merle Murray, I had the opportunity to speak with longtime community member Astil Gage, who shares some of the rich history of both Salem Moravian Church and Salem Junior High School, and the important role they have played in shaping lives throughout the years. Astil was also instrumental in the recent Labour Day project that helped construct a temporary church building after the original structure was severely impacted. Although the temporary facility is now standing, much work remains to be done before it can fully serve the congregation. At present, the roof is still covered primarily with tarpaulins, and the community is continuing its efforts to complete the structure. This short conversation offers a glimpse into the history, significance, and ongoing rebuilding effort surrounding one of the community's most important institutions.
