Nepal Flash Floods Caused by Collapsed Glacier
A deadly flash flood tore through Nepal’s mountainous border region with China on Aug. 26, engulfing villages and washing away roads and bridges. More than 160 people have been confirmed dead, and the death toll is expected to climb as hundreds more remain missing. #nepal #china #asia #weather #flood #news #world While flash floods around the world are often triggered by extreme rainfall, that doesn’t appear to have been the cause in this case. Early investigations point instead to Nepal’s glaciers as the likely trigger. Nepal is particularly vulnerable to flash floods because of its mountainous terrain and rapidly changing glaciers. Those dangers are only expected to increase as climate change warms the Himalayas. The risk of glacial lake-related flooding across the broader Hindu Kush Himalaya region is expected to roughly triple by the end of the century. America's Last Slave Ship (Full Episode) | Drain the Oceans | National Geographic
What was America's last slave ship? Archaeologists investigate a ship wreck that could have been the last ever slave ship to bring Africans to American soil through the trans-Atlantic slave trade. On the night of July 9, 1860, the schooner, Clotilda, disappears off of the coast of Alabama in Mobile Bay. Archaeologists attempt to learn if this wreck is the famed Clotilda, and the physical evidence it could provide on the dark history of the slave trade. Pelican Island | The Last Pelican Sanctuary
Pelican Island - There is a very special island in the steppe in southern Russia. Every year up to 2,000 breeding pairs of great white pelicans gather here, forming the only pelican colony in Russia and one of the largest in Europe. Director: Nadya Dorofeeva, Annette Gourdon Writers: Nadya Dorofeeva, Annette Gourdon Stars: Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus onocrotalus) Genre: Documentary, Nature, Wildlife Country: Germany Language: English, French, German Also Known As: The Pelican Island Release Date: 2023 Filming Location: Manych Reservoir, southern Russia (between the Caspian and Azov Seas) Produced by: Längengrad Filmproduktion Broadcasters: ZDF, arte Length: 43 / 52 minutes Synopsis Hidden in the vast Russian steppe lies a small island that hosts one of Europe’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles. Every year thousands of great white pelicans arrive to breed and raise their chicks on this remote island in the Manych Reservoir. But this fragile sanctuary is increasingly threatened. Climate change and the growing diversion of water for agriculture are lowering the reservoir’s water level, turning protective islands into peninsulas that predators like foxes can reach. Through extraordinary close-up footage, the film reveals the pelicans’ complex behavior — from nesting and cooperative fishing to the young birds’ first attempts to fly — offering a rare glimpse into the life of one of Europe’s most important pelican colonies. ···················································································· SUPPORT US! ✘ Membership - https://bit.ly/3pYmbNb MORE MOVIES! ► Ocean Life: https://bit.ly/425KqWy ► Nature & Animals: https://bit.ly/4223SDL ► All Playlists: https://bit.ly/3MvVwyi #documentary #nature #wildlife ···················································································· COPYRIGHT: All of the films published by us are legally licensed. IMPOSSIBLE PLACES: Extreme Villages You Won’t Believe How People Live | 4K Travel Documentary Across different regions of the world, certain villages exist in environments where terrain and conditions create constant risk. In this video, we explore settlements built on steep cliffs, isolated mountain slopes, flood-prone valleys, and remote coastal zones exposed to natural forces. From houses anchored into rock faces to communities connected by narrow paths and unstable access routes, each location reveals how people adapt to challenging surroundings. These are not typical places to live. They are defined by limited accessibility, environmental pressure, and natural conditions that can shift without warning. Many of these villages exist beyond modern infrastructure, where daily life depends on navigating terrain, weather, and geographic isolation. If you’re ready to explore some of the most dangerous and extreme villages on Earth, this journey is for you.
