Infrared footage captured by Earthworks shows the release of methane gas from a leak at the Aliso Canyon Underground Storage Field in Los Angeles County. First detected on October 23, 2015, the leak has spewed more than 4.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas into the atmosphere. Southern California Gas Company, which owns the storage facility, doesn't expect crews to be able to stop the leak before February. In the meantime, thousands of area residents have been relocated to temporary housing. The cause of the leak is under investigation. Before construction can begin on the new Crossrail station, archaeologists must excavate the 16th-century cemetery that's beneath it. More than 3,300 skeletons, many of whom died from the plague, were exhumed from the old Bedlam cemetery.
