60s & 70s JAMAICA: WHY DISCIPLINE WAS EVERYTHING
Did you know that in the 60s and 70s, missing the school gate by just a minute meant facing a teacher with a leather strap? Take a trip down memory lane as we uncover the strict rules and vibrant culture of growing up in Jamaica that shaped an entire generation. This episode of Kareems Quest explores the profound sense of nostalgia surrounding Jamaican childhood, from the unyielding discipline of "licks" to the simple joy of school-gate snacks like Paradise Plum and the legendary "diff." We sit down with locals who share their authentic lived experiences, reflecting on a time when community values, church-centered households, and a deep respect for elders were the cornerstones of our heritage. Whether it was the early morning ritual of catching water at the river or the bittersweet feeling of "free paper bun" at the end of summer, these stories capture the essence of a resilient past. Join us as we celebrate the cultural richness of the island, highlighting the traditions, local businesses, and indelible memories that continue to unite the Jamaican diaspora today. VISITING GEORGE MILLER AND HIS FAMILY IN NEW MARKET ST.ELIZABETH, MELISSA GRADUATED
Today, we returned to visit the Miller family, one of the families whose lives were completely turned upside down when Hurricane Melissa destroyed their home. Thanks to the incredible kindness and generosity of our donors and supporters, through the SHAN ZENZEN– Look Out for Your Neighbor Foundation, we were able to help rebuild their home and give them a fresh start. ❤️ On this visit, we brought groceries and spent time catching up with the family. George Miller is a hardworking small farmer who works tirelessly to provide for his family, while his wife stands faithfully beside him, helping however she can. We were also thrilled to celebrate a very special milestone—their daughter Melissa has successfully graduated from kindergarten and will be entering Grade One this September! We are so proud of her and wish her nothing but success as she continues her educational journey. Although the family has made tremendous progress since losing everything, they still face many challenges. George shared with us that disease recently affected several of his crops, including his sweet potatoes and dasheen, resulting in significant losses and making it even more difficult to provide for his family. Your continued support can make a real difference. Whether through donations, sharing this video, or simply keeping this family in your prayers, every act of kindness helps bring hope to families like the Millers. Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping us continue to transform lives across Jamaica. ❤️ If you'd like to support the Miller family or the work of the SHAN ZENZEN – Look Out for Your Neighbor Foundation, please reach out using the contact information in the description or on our social media pages. 876-919-5344 Please Like, Comment, Share, and Subscribe to help us reach more people and continue changing lives together. #MelissaGraduates #KindergartenGraduation #Jamaica #HurricaneMelissa #MillerFamily #HelpingFamilies #CommunitySupport #FarmerLife #Hope #GivingBack #Humanity #NonProfit #SHANZN #LookOutForYourNeighbor #JamaicaVlog #KindnessMatters #SupportSmallFarmers #ChangingLives #Inspiration #YouTubeJamaica

13 Forbidden Places in Jamaica You're Not Allowed To Visit
Jamaica has a village that governs itself under a 1739 treaty, two-thirds of a 17th-century city lying under its harbour, and a 78,024-hectare karst interior it gazetted as a protected area, though mining leases still press its edge. Some of these places are closed by a statute, some by a coast guard, and one by a nation inside the nation that never surrendered. And the public is barred from all of them. In this video, we explore: → A no-take fish sanctuary where a warden can board your boat inside the buoys and seize your catch and gear. → A 15-kilometre sand spit with a single road, a Ramsar wetland, and a secured airport fence you cannot cross. → A dry forest sealed off because it holds the last wild population of a lizard once declared extinct. → A World War II US air base, closed since 1949 and now secured behind a military fence by the Jamaica Defence Force. → Two islands a shipping company nearly dredged into a port, saved and set aside as a wildlife sanctuary. → Four cays 51 kilometres offshore where trespass is an offence and a fishery inspector can arrest you without a warrant. → A Jamaica Defence Force live-fire range that was the scene of the killing of five men in 1978. → An 8,000-square-kilometre fishing bank 80 kilometres out, watched by a Coast Guard station, its shoals scattered with wrecks. → The headquarters of the Jamaica Defence Force, in the middle of Kingston, closed under the Defence Act. → A ruined 18th-century Maroon capital with no road to it, inside a UNESCO World Heritage core zone, reachable only on foot with a Maroon guide. → Two-thirds of a 1692 city under the harbour, divable only with a National Heritage Trust permit. → A 78,024-hectare karst interior gazetted as a protected area in 2022, with mining leases still pressing at its boundary. And at number one: Accompong, in the hills of Saint Elizabeth. Its people are Maroons who won their freedom and a treaty from the British in 1739, decades before the United States existed and more than two centuries before Jamaica became a country. The village elects its own leader and holds its land in common, and it opens for one celebration on January 6 each year. The sacred ground, including the Peace Cave where the treaty was sworn, stays closed to outsiders by Maroon law, and you can be turned back at the boundary. FREE BOOK 13 Creepiest Places in Jamaica. Maine | The Wildest, Emptiest State in America | Travel Documentary 4K
Maine is the wildest, emptiest state in America — a place where ninety percent of the land is still ancient forest, and three thousand miles of coastline defy the logic of American geography. From the sandy shores of Old Orchard Beach to the granite summits of Acadia National Park, this Maine travel guide explores 17 extraordinary destinations that reveal a state most travelers only glimpse from the highway. Whether you are planning your first Maine usa tour or searching for the best places to visit in Maine, this 4K travel documentary delivers the full picture in breathtaking cinematic detail. Hit that subscribe button — it's completely free and really motivates me to create more content: https://www.youtube.com/@PathfindersTravel-YT?sub_confirmation=1 ***************************************************************************** 📍 DESTINATIONS 00:00 Welcome to Maine 03:05 Old Orchard Beach 05:56 Scarborough 08:24 Casco Bay 11:48 Cape Elizabeth 15:23 Kennebunk 18:26 Ogunquit 22:26 Bath 25:32 Rockland 28:54 Boothbay Harbor 31:46 Pemaquid Point 34:59 Rockport 37:57 Camden 41:17 Bar Harbor 44:46 Acadia National Park 49:25 Moosehead Lake 52:46 Baxter State Park 56:02 Portland ***************************************************************************** Follow the Maine coastline from its southern beaches northward through wild, glacier-carved terrain. Old Orchard Beach opens with seven miles of open Atlantic sand before the landscape shifts to the fractured maze of Casco Bay's archipelago and the clifftop drama of Portland Head Light at Cape Elizabeth — the oldest lighthouse in Maine, standing since 1791. Through the working harbors of Kennebunk and Ogunquit, lobster boats still set out at dawn along a shoreline that has never learned to rush. Maine's midcoast tells a different story entirely. Bath, the historic shipbuilding capital, still rings with the sound of steel on steel. Rockland's granite breakwater stretches nearly a mile into Penobscot Bay, while Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point reveal rock formations shaped by forces that predate human memory. Camden is where the mountains meet the sea — a collision found nowhere else on the Atlantic coast, with a harbor widely considered the finest in all of New England and a history of wooden windjammers that still sail these waters today. Then comes Bar Harbor Maine — once the summer retreat of Gilded Age fortunes, now the gateway to Acadia National Park. Cadillac Mountain rises directly from the sea, its pink granite summit the first place in the United States to receive morning light. Stand at Thunder Hole as waves echo off the cliffs like cannon fire, trace the carriage roads above Jordan Pond, and find Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse perched over the open Atlantic below. For anyone planning a new england road trip, Acadia alone is worth the drive. Maine's wild interior is the final frontier. Moosehead Lake — the largest lake in New England — stretches forty miles through boreal forest, where moose outnumber people and the ice breaks apart each spring with sounds like distant thunder. Baxter State Park protects over 200,000 acres of wilderness without a single paved road or gift shop, and Mount Katahdin — the highest point in Maine and northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail — stands as one of the continent's most demanding and rewarding summits. The journey ends in Portland, Maine's most livable city and its cultural heartbeat: the cobblestone streets of the Old Port District, Victorian warehouses converted into independent markets, and a working waterfront that has rebuilt itself from the ashes of the great fire of 1866 without losing what made it worth saving. ***************************************************************************** 📺 **MORE FROM PATHFINDERS TRAVEL** ▶ Wonders of Alaska | The Most Amazing Places in Alaska → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oFr1dlEdtM ▶ British Columbia | Canada's Most Beautiful Province → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nLciKQE4pY ▶ Wonders of Ontario | Is this the Most Beautiful Place in Canada? → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrCPcD6VrnI ▶ Wonders of the Caribbean | Caribbean's Hidden Paradises → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0emGKMvS4wg ***************************************************************************** Subscribe to Pathfinders Travel for more cinematic Maine tourism content and 4K travel documentary journeys to the world's most extraordinary destinations. 🌍 https://pathfinders-travel.com 🌍 #MaineTravel #AcadiaNationalPark #BarHarbor #TravelDocumentary #4K
