Synopsis:
This special documentary collection brings together four remarkable nature films: “Journey of the Pelicans – An Australian Outback Mystery,” “Accidental Nature: Europe’s Everglades,” “Echoes of the Ice Age” and “Giants with Mud Feet.” Together, they reveal how nature adapts, recovers and survives in deserts, wetlands, frozen landscapes and threatened forests.
Across the vast deserts of Australia, thousands of pelicans travel deep into the outback when rare floods transform the dry landscape into a temporary wetland paradise. In Germany, the Rieselfelder Münster — once a sewage treatment area — has become one of Europe’s richest wetland ecosystems, showing how nature can reclaim spaces created by humans.
The journey continues through Europe’s landscapes shaped by the last Ice Age, where alpine flowers, muskoxen and northern wilderness still carry the memory of a frozen past. Finally, the collection turns to the forests of Europe and North America, where scientists race to save the majestic elm tree from Dutch Elm Disease, a microscopic but devastating threat spread by the elm bark beetle.
Together, these films form a powerful portrait of resilience, transformation and survival. They show that nature can flourish in the most unlikely places — often in ways we are only beginning to understand.
