Mangrove swamps are a place of contrast, where dry meets wet, and where salt water meets fresh. The creatures who call this home are fish who live out of water for hours but don’t breathe oxygen, shell living organisms like whelks who move with the moon... over a month! And the ten-legged crabs are no exception to these oddities! Fiddler crab males own a pincer claw almost as large as their whole body which are used to impress females, and red mangrove crabs go to war for salty dead yellow leaves that fall between demarcated territories. This is a place of mystery, uniqueness and of course there is always wonder in this African swampland!
