On Nov. 16, 2022, the Orion spacecraft launched aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center and embarked on the #Artemis I mission to the Moon and back. Orion orbited the Moon, getting as close as 79 miles to the lunar surface, and successfully splashed back down to Earth 25.5 days later on Dec. 11. Four RS-25 engines and two five-segment solid rocket boosters provided more than 8.8 million pounds of thrust for SLS during liftoff and flight. Thanks in part to development of a new RS-25 engine controller that checks engine health 50 times per second, engineers were able to collect more than 100 measurements on pressures, temperatures, flows, speeds, and vibrations on the four RS-25 engines that helped power Artemis I. The preliminary post-flight data indicates that all SLS systems performed exceptionally and that the designs are ready to support a crewed flight on Artemis II. The Artemis II mission will bring us closer to establishing a sustained human presence on the lunar surface and landing the first woman and first person of color on the Moon. At first glance, the no-go zone looks like any other market – yet the main thing you’ll find lurking down the alleyways behind it is death. It’s ruled by the “La Union” gang. The Tepito cartel deals in drugs, weapons and assassinations – anything that you can use money to buy. The gang plays cat and mouse with the special units. And anyone caught in the crossfire is risking their life. Residents also call the area “Barrio Bravo” – the wild neighborhood. Estimates suggest that around eight kilos of cocaine and half a ton of marijuana are sold in the alleyways of the no-go zone of Tepito every weekend. It is a place where people pay up to fourteen thousand euros to hitmen for a single yet fatal bullet. A silent knife attack. Or a blast from a shotgun. The normal police force is barely able to keep the situation under control. According to statistics, Mexico City alone is short of over ten thousand officers. So, in their fight to stop the gangs, the authorities rely primarily on a special unit. Consisting of four hundred men in total, the troop is ready for action around the clock. And the gang members are prepared to kill anybody who might ruin their business. Tepito – a place that doesn’t play by society’s rules. Where the powerful “La Union” gang rules. And people die on a daily basis. It’s a landscape born of ice and rock; beautiful and picturesque, hailed as one of creation’s summits. Yet this valley in central Austria has been smashed and broken, crushed and teased, sunk and raised again by nature’s forces; a haunt and habitat for both man and animal, offering no easy life to either. Our senses satiated by the stunning peaks, sheer black cliffs and dark blue lakes, we might miss the real sources of life, deep inside the mountains: salt, and water. A source for both, man and animal. A source of wealth, exploitation, anarchy, isolation - and zest for life. This is a dense world of extremes and contrasts: cold winters weighed down by snow and frequent avalanches, followed by warm, humid summers; and the conflict of powerful, colorful traditions encountering the forces of modernity. Like a storybook, Ausseerland is a highly compressed universe: here proud red deer observe the humans, while people prefer to measure each other up. Meadows full of daffodils –elsewhere a brief reminder of spring – here become the centre of a giant festival that attracts thousands of people, and dollars, to the region. This landscape is shared with wildlife as well. The peaks of the desert-like mountain ranges are the realm of deer and chamois. In the forests wild boar roam, and in the cool mountain lakes, with their secret underground inlets, the char is king, challenged by both the fishermen and by more recent visitors, the elegant black cormorants.

Their landscapes and lifestyles maybe very different, but these babies are born to hunt. Predators come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny but hardy Arctic foxes to snowy owls, speedy cheetahs, agile pumas and mighty polar bears. They will all face their own unique set of challenges before they earn their titles as top predators. Fox cubs must learn to hunt, but their Arctic home is teaming with bird-life during the summer and geese and gulls often end up on the menu. For a while the cubs have it easy, but the summer is short-lived this far north and before long they will need to leave their mothers and face the harsh reality of winter alone - with a ticking clock they must learn to hunt. But while foxes rely on cunning, cheetah cubs must get the hang of running fast; they are destined to become the fastest runners on earth and will use their skills to chase down nimble gazelles. In fact by working together, young cheetahs are able to go after larger prey - joining forces to outsmart an aggressive ostrich or even to take down a large wildebeest.
