Finding Jamaica’s Secret Jungle Ruins
#JamaicaHistory #Troja #JamaicaRailway Troja: Jamaica's Forgotten Banana Railway | Homecoming Tour with Ricardo Deep in the hills of St. Catherine, Jamaica's abandoned railway once carried bananas from Troja all the way to the export docks of Port Antonio. Subscriber Ricardo — a son of Troja — took us home to walk that history with him. Troja railway station opened in 1896 as a stop on the Bog Walk to Port Antonio branch line, about 31 miles from the Kingston terminus. Like the other stations on this Jamaica railway line, Troja served the surrounding agricultural community — giving local farmers a way to move bananas onto the line and out through the port. This branch of the Jamaica railway system was built to serve the island's booming banana trade in the late 1800s. It broke off from the existing Bog Walk railway and cut through the hills between St. Catherine and St. Mary, first serving the cocoa industry around Highgate and Richmond, before running north along the coast through St. Mary and into Portland — the epicenter of Jamaica's banana industry. That mountainous terrain between St. Catherine and St. Mary is why this stretch of railway needed such an extensive system of tunnels and bridges — engineering built to keep the banana trade moving from the interior to the coast. By the time this railway was running at full capacity, Port Antonio had become the global hub of the Jamaican banana trade — a business pioneered by American sea captain Lorenzo Dow Baker in 1870, and later expanded by the Boston Fruit Company, which became United Fruit. Bananas leaving Boundbrook Wharf in Port Antonio made this parish famous — the same wharf immortalized in "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)." Walking Troja with Ricardo isn't just a trip down memory lane — it's a look at how one rural community, and the Jamaica railway line that ran through it, helped move an entire island's economy. 📍 Troja, St. Catherine 🚂 Bog Walk to Port Antonio Railway 🍌 Jamaica's Banana Export Era Thank you, Ricardo, for showing us home. THE TINY NATION OF THE BALKANS - A Small Land with Monumental Landscapes | Travel Video
#travelvideo #worldexplorer #exploretravel Between the Balkan mountains torn open by deep geological fractures, a massive canyon emerges like a boundary between two worlds. Towering cliffs drop straight into deep blue waters, while along the Adriatic coast, medieval towns still cling to quiet bays where the surface of the sea seems untouched by time. Montenegro is one of the rare places in Europe where such a short distance contains such extreme geographic transformation. Within just a few hours of travel, the landscape shifts from deep coastal waters to towering mountain ranges, from ancient stone fortresses overlooking the sea to cold high plateaus still marked by the traces of ancient glaciers. These layers of scenery were shaped over millions of years of geological forces, while also preserving the traces of ancient trade routes that once connected the Mediterranean. Each scene reveals another fragment of Montenegro, where nature and history intertwine within a compact yet constantly shifting space. 00:00 Introduction. 02:01 Kotor Old Town – A Medieval Town Between Mountains and Sea. 04:25 Durmitor National Park – A Land of Rocky Mountains and Glaciers. 07:22 Perast – A Peaceful Historic Town Along the Bay. 10:19 Tara River Canyon – The Deepest Canyon in Europe. 13:16 Budva Old Town – A Lively Coastal Historic Town. 16:19 Black Lake – A Dark Lake Surrounded by Pine Forests. 19:11 Stari Bar – Ancient Ruins on a Mountainside. 22:01 Ostrog Monastery – A Monastery Built Into a Vertical Cliff. 24:46 Piva River Canyon – A Narrow Canyon of Deep Blue Water. 27:27 Cetinje – Montenegro’s Historic and Cultural Capital. 30:00 Lake Skadar – A Vast Lake with a Rich Ecosystem. 32:41 Lovćen National Park – Mountains Connected to National History. 35:23 Tivat – A Modern Coastal Port City. 38:22 Pavlova Strana Viewpoint – A Dramatic Curving River View. 40:58 Biogradska Gora – One of Europe’s Oldest Primeval Forests. 43:30 Sveti Stefan – A Stone Island Village Connected to the Mainland. 46:07 Frozen Lake Bukumir – A Remote and Silent High Mountain Lake. 48:38 Herceg Novi – A Green Terraced Coastal Town. 51:06 Njegos Mausoleum – A Mausoleum on a High Mountain Summit. 53:19 Ulcinj – A Coastal City with Strong Balkan Character. 55:59 Prokletije National Park – A Rugged Mountain Range Few People Know. 58:47 Savina Monastery – An Ancient Monastery Hidden Among Pine Forests. 1:00:52 Podgorica – A Modern Capital Blending Tradition and Change. 1:03:05 Outro. Jamaica's First PIRATE FEST!
Port Royal today is home to a brand new festival in Jamaica - Kingston Pirates Week. Is it about time Jamaica started tapping into its history and bringing more pirate-themed activities to the island, or was it not worth it? ► Support us on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/jamaicawithirie The details: This video captures the Grand Finale of Kingston Pirates Week in Port Royal, showing the real atmosphere, costumes, performances, local vendors, and activities. The video also captures the first-ever Pirate Invasion from the Cayman Islands, performed by the Cayman Corsairs. If you are searching for festivals in Jamaica, things to do in Kingston Jamaica, or unique activities in Jamaica, this is what Kingston Pirates Week actually looked like on March 15, 2026. ► Kingston Pirates Week 2027 The next such event is planned for March 11-14, 2027 and can be booked on their official website as soon as tickets are available: https://kingstonpiratesweek.com/ ► Pirate Tours & Events For more pirate-themed attractions, tours, and events, check out our website here: https://jamaicapirates.com/ 🔴 CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction 02:22 Overview of the Festival 05:42 Kids Zone 06:14 Meet Local Vendors 10:50 Waiting for Pirates 12:48 More Local Vendors 14:07 Discovery Channel Crew 15:16 The Pirate Invasion! 18:25 Pirates Fight and Gifts 20:27 Meet the Producers (ft. Epidemic Sound is the most popular music library for youtube. See the referral link below: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/eavx0v The songs from Epidemic Sound used in this video: ► Hierba Blanco (Instrumental Version) - Lawd Ito ► Dance of the Wildcats - Deskant ► Seashore - Adriel Fair ► Whispers of the Banyan - Aks & Lakshmi ► Vagabond's Awakening - Dian Shuai ► Clear Sight at Last - Sam Will 🎵 Other Music: 19:25 Drunken Sailor - cover by Irina Bruce (AI-generated) 🤓 Fun fact: “Drunken Sailor” or "Up She Rises”, is a traditional sea shanty and the song itself is in public domain. It was sung aboard sailing ships from around the 1830s and the authorship is unknown, but some say it bears a resemblance with the traditional Irish folk song Óró sé do bheatha abhaile. 🤓 During Kingston Pirates Week “Drunken Sailor” was played multiple times, but because the version they played was a performance by “The Irish Rovers” - it was a copyrighted music which couldn’t be used on YouTube. To avoid the issue with copyright, I created a brand new cover of this song using my own voice as a template for female vocals and pushing it through AI to generate the right type of music. It took me a few attempts, but I think it came out pretty well in the end!
