It can also be seen at this link https://www.tropicalacresfarms.com/product-page/karen-michelle Karen Michelle was an Edward seedling from the breeding program of Gary Zill of Boynton Beach, FL (planting # 1-15). It was named after the wife of Craig Campbell. The original tree has reportedly been a very light producer. The fruit are large, ovoid and turn yellow when ripe. The flesh is medium-firm, fiberless, and has a very high quality, rich-sweet balanced classic flavor very similar to Edward, with perhaps a touch more sweetness than its parent normally. We grafted a tree into Karen Michelle in 2017 to evaluate its production habits. The tree began fruiting in 2020 and has produced each year since. It has a moderately vigorous growth habit with a dense canopy. The fruit has ripened early-to-mid season for us so far and has been very resistant to mango bacterial black spot. South Africa has a white population of approximately 4.5 million and during apartheid, the racist society existed to elevate them into a privileged position. But today, white charities claim that up to 400,000 of them now live below the poverty line in small, make-shift camps- though these figures remain hotly disputed. Behind the headlines lies an uncomfortable question- with apartheid gone, are these white South Africans now the ones being discriminated against by being on the wrong side of affirmative action? Wide open heaths, windswept and barren in winter, are transformed into wonderful carpets of white, fluffy cotton grass in summer. Large bears and wolves roam alongside delicately fluttering butterflies, the bubbling calls of black grouse and the enchanting trills of the great snipe. Moors, bogs and wetlands can be found all over in Europe. Everyone has at least heard about this habitat but most know little about it. Only 1% of the Middle European wetlands are still untouched. A gigantic amount of carbohydrate is stored inside these wetlands. But knowing about this fact does not stop their destruction. Climate change and global warming are on everyone’s mind – stopping the destruction of moors and wetlands would be one great step towards the reduction of greenhouse gases.
