I don't know if you knew but there are white lions! Look here: One regular brown lion and one rare white lion. The white variety are real life shinies! There are only fewer than 300 white lions in the wild. But they are not albino but have a condition called leucism, in which their bodies make very little pigment of any kind. Both mother and father lion have to carry and pass on the rare recessive gene so that lion happens to be white. Survival in the wild is more difficult for them as they stand out more against the yellow-brown savanna they call home due to their striking, almost entirely white fur. They typically also have blue or light-colored eyes, a pinkish nose, and a blonde to near-white mane. - on which you notice every dirty spot. An international crew is preparing to launch to the International Space Station aboard NASA’s SpaceX Crew-7 mission. NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov of Roscosmos will perform research technology demonstrations, science experiments, and maintenance activities aboard the microgravity laboratory. Crew-7 is targeted to launch no earlier than 3:27 a.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 26 from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy. As part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program, Crew-7 marks the eighth human spaceflight mission supported by a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and the seventh crew rotation mission to the space station since 2020 for NASA. In this episode we look at white dolphins. Deep beneath the ocean exists an incredibly hostile world – an icy world plunged in eternal darkness where the pressure is phenomenal. This world is the abyssal realm – the largest habitat on our planet. Yet some marine mammals that breathe air and nurse their young, like us, spend a large part of their days in this shadowy world. Scientists are now discovering that the depths reached by these ocean dwelling giants are far greater than they had ever imagined. Using tags attached to the animals, cameras in the deep ocean trenches and 3D scanning images, this film follows and illustrates a modern scientific revolution. Constructed as a dramatic progression towards the deep sea trenches – from the shallowest to the deepest – it shows animals that are extremely rare and highlights the remarkable physiological adaptations that allow them to dive so deep.
