Today, I returned to the area known as Common in Lacovia St.Elizabeth Jamaica, also called Capture Land or Ply City, a community that has been struggling since Hurricane Melissa. When I first visited, the residents shared their fear, their challenges, and how difficult it was—especially at night with no light and the constant worries about crocodiles in the area, especially with so many children living there. This time, I came back with real help. We delivered a large water tank for the community so they can finally have access to clean drinking water. I also brought building supplies to help families begin rebuilding their homes and lives. And after listening to their concerns about the darkness and the danger at night, we returned with solar lights to brighten the community and bring a sense of safety back. The gratitude on their faces said everything. They were thankful, hopeful, and uplifted — and I was just as grateful to be able to help.
