The Secret World of Murderous Plants | Narrated by David Attenborough | 4K Nature Documentary
They cannot run. They cannot chase. They have no teeth, no claws, no venom. And yet some of the most ruthless hunters on Earth are plants. David Attenborough Narrates this documentary and explores the world of plants that eat meat. Charles Darwin was so captivated by carnivorous plants that he spent years studying them, writing an entire book on the subject. A century and a half later, scientists are still making discoveries that would have astonished even him. Because it turns out that the world of killer plants is far larger, far stranger and far more sophisticated than anyone ever imagined. Carnivorous plants have fascinated science fiction writers for generations. But as this documentary makes clear, the reality is stranger, more complex and more beautiful than any fiction has ever managed to capture. This is Part 1 of Plants Behaving Badly — a two-part series that explores the two groups of plants that captivated Darwin and continue to astonish scientists today. 🔔 Subscribe to Terra Mater for more amazing nature and science documentaries 👍 Like this video if you love carnivorous plants as much as we do! 💬 Did you know that plants can be hunters too? 📽️ Facts Written & Directed: Steve Nicholls Executive producers: Martin Mészáros, Sabine Holzer Production companies: Produced by Sky Vision for Terra Mater Factual Studios 🔗 More about the production: https://www.terramater.at/productions/plants-behaving-badly/ Chapters: 0:00 The Myth of Man-Eating Plants 2:10 Three Ways to Catch a Meal 4:11 Darwin's Obsession with the Sundew 14:06 The Venus Fly Trap's Deadly Precision 19:27 The Amazing World of Pitcher Plants 36:19 Elaborate Designs of Southeast Asian Pitcher Plants 47:43 Mammals and Plants: A Surprising Connection #terrmater #carnivorousplants #sundew

We Found Jamaica's 'Baby Spring' in Hamwalk
#Jamaica #spring #hiddenjamaica The Baby Spring: Jamaica's Hidden Fertility River in St. Catherine Deep in rural St. Catherine, Jamaica, a small river head has been quietly protected by residents for generations. Locals call it the Baby Spring — a natural spring believed to help women who are struggling to conceive. This journey through St. Catherine took us to Pear Tree Grove, John Crow Spring, and the small community of Hamwalk, where we found this river head and spoke to the residents who've passed down its story for generations. The Baby Spring isn't documented in any official record. It exists the way most of Jamaica's hidden history does — passed down by word of mouth, protected by the people who live closest to it, and largely unknown outside the communities of rural St. Catherine. Pear Tree Grove and John Crow Spring sit tucked into the hills of St. Catherine, connected by the same rivers and streams that run through Hamwalk. These communities hold onto traditions and beliefs that rarely make it into Jamaica's written history — stories about the land, the water, and the people who depend on both. This is part of an ongoing series exploring Jamaica's hidden history — the communities, landmarks, and stories that don't make it into textbooks but live on in the people who call these places home. 📍 Pear Tree Grove, St. Catherine 📍 John Crow Spring, St. Catherine 📍 Hamwalk, St. Catherine 💧 The Baby Spring — Jamaica's Fertility River Legend A special thank you to Ricardo for guiding us through these communities once again. Elite Jamaica
The Forgotten Village of Richmond Vale in St Thomas
What secrets are hidden within the quiet community of Richmond in St. Thomas? In this episode of Elite Jamaica, I journey into the historic district of Richmond, once part of the old parish of St. David, to uncover the story of a forgotten sugar plantation that dates back more than 200 years. Listed on James Robertson's famous 1804 map of Jamaica, Richmond was once a thriving estate powered by a watermill and worked by nearly one hundred enslaved Africans whose labour fueled Jamaica's colonial sugar industry. As we walk through the community, we'll explore the history of the Richmond Estate, trace its changing owners—including Leonard Wray, John Willis, John Shand, Robert Smart and William Read—and search for any surviving traces of its colonial past. From abandoned stonework and forgotten landscapes to the stories of the people who once lived and laboured here, this is a journey into one of St. Thomas' overlooked pieces of history. Join me as we uncover another forgotten chapter of Jamaica's past, one community at a time.
