"You can only describe the tropical whip spider as evolution’s perfect design for an arthropod killing machine," says Verner Bingman, a behavioral neuroscientist and National Geographic grantee. While whip spiders are arachnids that fall under the arthropod phylum, they're not actually spiders. Whip spiders have eight legs, but the front two have evolved into antenniform legs that extend up to two feet long. These legs wiggle around like whips to gather sensory information, earning whip spiders their name. Video recorded by cameras mounted atop each of the twin solid rocket boosters that helped propel space shuttle Atlantis into Earth orbit on May 14 provide two new and unique views of the launch. The reusable SRBs were recovered shortly after launch May 14th from the Atlantic Ocean approximately 140 miles downrange from NASA's Kennedy Space Center where the STS-132 mission to the International Space Station began. Commander Ken Ham, Pilot Tony Antonelli and Mission Specialists Garrett Reisman, Steve Bowen, Mike Good and Piers Sellers are scheduled to leave the orbiting complex on Sunday when Atlantis undocks and begins its flight home.

The large animals of Gorongosa National Park were nearly wiped out during the Mozambican civil war. After the war had ended, people reported being charged and chased by the few traumatized elephants that survived. Cinematographer Bob Poole and his sister, Joyce, an elephant researcher, wondered if by running away from the elephants people were inadvertently provoking the magnificent animals. The Pooles teamed up to test their theory. The replacement of batteries on the P6 truss segment of the International Space Station was completed on the third and final spacewalk of STS-132 by Mission Specialists Mike Good and Garrett Reisman to finish the task begun on the missions previous EVA. Mission Specialists Mike Good and Garrett Reisman installed the final three new batteries on the P6 truss segment of the International Space Station on the third and final spacewalk of STS-132. Good, Reisman and the other four members of the space shuttle Atlantis crew will conclude a weeks stay at the ISS on Sunday.

The US Justice Department is expected to reclassify marijuana into a less restrictive federal category as soon as Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the matter. The change could remove taxes for companies that sell marijuana. Shares of cannabis stocks rose on the news. The 150 Tweeps, or people who use the Twitter networking service, were invited by NASA to view Atlantis' liftoff and share their unique experiences with their followers of the social medium.
