Transforming Ocean Trash Into Beautiful Art | Short Film Showcase
In the past, sailors on whaling ships would carve whale teeth into works of art in a process called scrimshaw. These pieces would be brought home to loved ones as mementos of the voyage. Design incubator Studio Swine is attempting to recycle found materials and turn this aged art form into a more sustainable practice. In this short film, travel to remote parts of the ocean, where “the closest people are in a space station,” and watch as the process of collecting ocean trash and transforming it into beautiful treasure unfolds. Kenyan President William Ruto said his government and neighboring Uganda’s are in talks with Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, to build a crude oil refinery in Tanzania. The Vultures This Man Loves May Soon Disappear | National Geographic
Would you care if vultures were dying because of a man-made drug? Meet a man in Spain who really cares about vultures—so much so that he travels great distances and climbs rocks to feed them. The majority of Europe's vultures live in Spain, and these vultures are in danger of being decimated, following the country's legalization in March 2013 of two products that contain the drug diclofenac, which is used as an anti-inflammatory and painkiller in cows and other livestock. The drug is blamed for killing upwards of 99 percent of vultures in India in a single decade. Vultures play an important ecological role in disposing of dead animals. And they die within a few days after eating the carcass of an animal recently given diclofenac. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Iran War: Stocks Fall as Oil Climbs With Talks in Limbo | The Opening Trade 4/23/2026
A record-breaking rally in US stocks came to a halt as peace talks in the Middle East remained in limbo, sending Brent crude further above $100 a barrel. Futures for the S&P 500 fell 0.4%. The US benchmark hit an all-time high in the previous session and extended gains for April to more than 9% following a slew of strong corporate results and the longest-ever advance in chipmakers. Brent rose 0.7% to around $102.60 a barrel as the US and Iran kept blocking the Strait of Hormuz after failing to meet for fresh talks. The Opening Trade has everything you need to know as markets open across Europe. With analysis you won't find anywhere else, we break down the biggest stories of the day and speak to top guests who have skin in the game. Hosted by Anna Edwards, Guy Johnson and Tom Mackenzie.
