Xi Warns Trump of Possible ‘Clashes’ If Taiwan Issue Mishandled
Xi Jinping warned Donald Trump of a potential conflict if the Taiwan issue is mismanaged, in blunt remarks that punctured an otherwise cordial start to the first trip to China by a sitting US president in nearly a decade. The two leaders spoke for nearly two-and-a-half hours at the Great Hall of the People on Thursday, after a welcome ceremony in central Beijing that included honor guards, a formal procession and dozens of children waving flags and cheering enthusiastically. While that meeting was still underway, China released a readout of Xi’s remarks that thrust self-ruled Taiwan into the spotlight. Trump-Xi Summit: Xi Warns Trump Of ‘Clashes’ If Taiwan Issue Mishandled | Daybreak Europe 05/14/2026
Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we'll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins. Chinese President Xi Jinping pressed US President Donald Trump on the issue of Taiwan and warned of a potential conflict if mismanaged, in blunt remarks that punctured an otherwise cordial start to the first visit to China by a sitting US president in nearly a decade. The Senate narrowly confirmed Kevin Warsh as chair of the Federal Reserve, setting up the most controversial leadership transition at the US central bank in decades and a test of its political independence. And Bloomberg understands Angela Rayner, the UK’s former deputy prime minister, has been cleared of deliberate wrongdoing by an investigation into her tax affairs and is preparing for a potential leadership bid against her former boss, Keir Starmer. Allies of Wes Streeting said on Wednesday that the health secretary was likely to quit his post this week and also launch a bid to replace Starmer. I Bought a Rain Forest, Part 2 | Nat Geo Live
In part two, Charlie Hamilton James begins to realize that conservation is a bourgeois concept. He goes to live with more illegal loggers, travels to Brazil to live with people who are burning down the rain forest for farm land, and then comes back to his plot of rain forest with an idea that could be one small step in the right direction to help both the illegal logger on his property and the rain forest. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Nat Geo Live: http://bit.ly/MoreNatGeoLive About Nat Geo Live (National Geographic Live): Thought-provoking presentations by today's leading explorers, scientists, and photographers.
