Banned For Being a Woman: Boxer Doesn’t Stop Fighting | Short Film Showcase
Cuba has a prolific Olympic boxing record, and yet the country doesn't allow female boxers to go to the Olympics. Namibia Flores Rodriguez is a female Cuban boxer. She's trained every day for years, readying herself for when that ban is lifted, with the single objective to represent Cuba and become an Olympic champion. She's faced every stereotype that a woman who wants to box can face. This short documentary by Maceo Frost tells her story of hope and dedication. Directed by Maceo Frost. Produced by Made by Forest. Desert Monster Tries to Survive in the American Southwest | National Geographic
The colorful Gila monster is threatened by increasingly hot and dry weather. Although celebrated as one of Arizona’s most recognized animals, Gila monsters are physiologically ill adapted for the Sonoran Desert. Little is known about the population, but it enjoys a protected status in Arizona. However, because of a growing human population, as well as climate change, which is making the Sonoran Desert hotter and drier, the Gila monster’s future is in doubt. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Nature’s Beautiful Misfits Sculpted from Scrap Metal | Short Film Showcase
Edouard Martinet's art will make you reimagine the insect world. The Frenchman's sculptures are distinctly creepy, true to nature, and full of life. His medium is piles of bent metals and cast-off bits and pieces with shapes that appeal to him: bike parts, kitchen spatulas, trumpet parts, umbrella ribs—anything can be of use. Putting these items together only requires a few tools, although Martinet's process takes months and is a test of patience. This short documentary follows his process for creating sculptures that are contradicting in the sense that they're both beautiful and, well, junk.
