See the 1,000-Year-Old Windmills Still in Use Today | National Geographic
These amazing windmills are among the oldest in the world. Located in the Iranian town of Nashtifan, initially named Nish Toofan, or "storm's sting," the windmills have withstood winds of up to 74 miles an hour. With the design thought to have been created in eastern Persia between 500-900 A.D., they have been in use for several centuries. ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 #NationalGeographic #Windmills #Iran Get More National Geographic: Official Site: https://nationalgeographic.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/natgeo Facebook: https://facebook.com/natgeo Threads: https://threads.com/@natgeo X: https://x.com/NatGeo LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/company/national-geographic TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@natgeo Reddit: https://reddit.com/user/nationalgeographic About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for critically acclaimed storytelling around science and exploration. Located just 800 miles from the North Pole on the island of Spitsbergen, the Soviet-era ghosttown of Pyramiden is one of the northernmost permanent settlements in the world. The site was first developed as a mining village in 1936, after the Soviets acquired the rights to mine the local coalfields.
