Dozens of WWII Planes Fly Through Restricted D.C. Airspace for V-E Day | National Geographic
One of the most varied collections of World War II aircraft ever assembled took to the skies above the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Friday, marking the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (V-E) Day. The event was arranged to honor soldiers who fought in the war, as well as Americans who contributed to the war effort at home. It included dozens of planes flying in 15 historical sequences—each representing a major battle, from Pearl Harbor to the final Allied air assault on Japan—and concluded with a missing-man formation.
