Plastic cutlery has been around for years, widely considered the only choice for cheap, disposable cutlery. Knowing the threat plastic poses to our environment and health, Narayana Peesapathy created a tasty and nutritious alternative: edible cutlery. Made with flours of jowar (sorghum) blended with rice and wheat, the spoons contain no chemicals, preservatives, fat, emulsifiers, artificial colors, or milk products. They're 100 percent natural, biodegradable, and come in a variety of sweet and savory flavors. TIL: A Bumblebee's Buzz Is Basically a Superpower | Today I Learned

Certain plants, including many of the ones we like to eat, store their pollen deep in the flower where bees can't access it. This could be a real problem, since bees play a crucial role in pollinating plants, helping them to produce the fruits we love to eat. No need to worry—bumblebees have our backs. They've adapted a secret weapon aka buzz pollination, or sonication, to unlock that pollen. The bumblebee attaches to the flower and vibrates its muscles with forces up to 30 g's! This produces the buzzing sound and shakes the pollen right onto the bumblebee, which then pollinates other flowers. So the next time you're eating blueberries, thank the bumblebee and its superpower buzz. Bolt has a lot more to teach you about bumblebees and has partnered with National Geographic grantee Neil Losin to make the film "A Ghost in the Making: Searching for the Rusty-Patched Bumble Bee.” Be sure to check out it out at http://www.rustypatched.com. These Indoor Wildfires Help Engineers Study the Real Thing | National Geographic
See researchers start their own fires to study how wildfires burn. Wildfires can be a devastating force that are hard to predict, but a team of researchers from the University of California, Riverside create these fires in their lab to understand how they burn and spread. The researchers prepare different types of forest brush and add other elements such as wind and humidity that affect fire behavior. The data collected is then used to predict how wildfires will behave under certain conditions. By working with the U.S. Forest Service, the researchers hope that their experiments will help firefighters understand and manage real fires. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Discovering Homo Naledi: Journey to Find a Human Ancestor, Part 1 | Nat Geo Live
Many thought that the time for field exploration in the search for human origins was over. Then in 2013, paleoanthropologist and National Geographic Explorer-In-Residence Lee Berger made a remarkable discovery: While exploring the Rising Star cave system in South Africa, his team stumbled upon one of the greatest fossil discoveries in the past half century. They found a new species of human ancestor that could very well change the way we think about human ancestry and evolution. In part one, Berger talks about the circumstances and passion that drove him to make this incredible find and the cavers who saw it first. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Nat Geo Live: http://bit.ly/MoreNatGeoLive About Nat Geo Live (National Geographic Live): Thought-provoking presentations by today's leading explorers, scientists, and photographers.
