Stranded Beluga Whale Rescued, Flown Back to Sea | National Geographic
A beluga whale stranded in a Canadian river for several weeks hitched a ride home thanks to a team of rescuers. The whale became trapped in the Nepisiguit River in New Brunswick, Canada, likely in search of food, or after an especially high tide. The rescuers used a net to catch the whale, put it on a stretcher, and then drove it to a waiting plane. It was flown back to the sea and released, where it will hopefully rejoin its pod. ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Experts hypothesize that the hawk was taken as a potential meal after hatching or while still in its shell. Its hungry squawks for food and open beak may have prompted the eagles to feed it as one of their own. The hawk chick must next survive its growing step siblings. Experts estimate the chick to be about four weeks old meaning it could attempt to fly in the coming week. Iran War: Flareup of Violence Tests Ceasefire | Daybreak Europe 05/05/2026
Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we'll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins. On today's show, the four-week ceasefire in the Middle East has been tested by a flareup of violence between the US and Iran. The American military fought off attacks from Iranian drones, missiles and armed small boats as it guided two US-flagged vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. UniCredit posted a record quarterly profit, strengthening CEO Andrea Orcel as he prepares to put his takeover bid to Commerzbank investors. But HSBC's first quarter profit missed estimates. Europe's biggest bank is putting money aside for credit losses and the impact of the conflict in the Middle East. Plus Bloomberg understands that Apple is exploring using Intel and Samsung to produce the main processors for its devices in the US. Doing so would offer a secondary option beyond its longtime partner TSMC. Today's guest: Sunaina Sinha Haldea, Raymond James, Global Head of Private Capital Advisory. These Slimy Fish Lips Are Made for Eating Coral | National Geographic
A new study found that one coral-eating fish has mucus-secreting lips that protects it during feeding. The tubelip wrasses (Labropsis australis) developed fleshy, protruding lips that produce a thin layer of mucus that protects them from barbed or venomous cells found on the coral’s surface. The lips allow the fish to suck edible material off coral in short “kissing” motions. Because of corals' sharp skeletons and presence of protective surface cells, there are only a few coral-eating fish. Of the 6,000 reef fish species, only 128 feed on coral. ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure.
