This mix creates 'myceliated' wood, which is then torn apart and put into a mould and allowed to re-grow into shapes like lamps or stools. Once the fungus reaches the right size, it's taken out of the mould and allowed to dry. The environment-friendly furniture is strong, lightweight, and compostable. Only lamps and stools have been grown so far, but the designers believe the process could be scaled up. Hantavirus-Hit Cruise Ship Begins Evacuation in Canary Islands
A cruiseship at the center of a deadly hantavirus outbreak is starting the process of evacuating passengers in Spain’s Canary Islands, almost a month after the contagious disease broke out. Distinguished professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Emory University School of Medicine Dr. Carlos Del Rio joins David Gura and Christina Ruffini on Bloomberg This Weekend to discuss. The vessel, the Dutch-flagged MV Hondius, anchored near Tenerife on Sunday and people have started to disembark, beginning with Spanish citizens, Spain’s Health Ministry said. “The docking took place at 6:30 a.m. and has been a success in spite of all the adversities,” Health Minister Mónica García said in a statement. Health officials have found that “all passengers are asymptomatic,” she added. Passengers from the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium will follow and be flown to their countries, with both a Spanish and a Dutch plane ready. The Irish government is sending a plane to Spain on Sunday to repatriate two Irish citizens, who will then be sent to a medical facility for monitoring and isolation, a situation that could take several weeks, broadcaster RTE said. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? A tanker carrying liquefied natural gas from Qatar appears to have transited the Strait of Hormuz, marking the country’s first export out of the region since the Iran war began. Bloomberg Asia Energy Lead Stephen Stapczynski joins David Gura and Christina Ruffini on Bloomberg This Weekend to discuss. The Al Kharaitiyat, which loaded at the Ras Laffan export plant earlier this month, exited the strait and is in the Gulf of Oman, ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg shows.
