A relatively recent discipline, synchronised swimming became an Olympic sport for the first time in Los Angeles in 1984, with solo and duet events, relive some of the classic moments from the event's debut in these Olympic highlights.
Team USA athlete Tracie Ruiz-Conforto was the biggest name in the sports debut, having won the Olympic gold medal in both the solo and duet competition. In the duet competition Canada and Japan completed the podium in second and third, respectively. Meanwhile in the solo competition, it was Carolyn Waldo from Canada and Miwako Motoyoshi who won the silver and bronze medals.
Four years later at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, the situation between American and Canadian athletes would be exactly inverted. While Carolyn Waldo repeated Ruiz-Conforto's feat and won the gold medal in both competitions (http://youtu.be/2MqKyTewaTQ), Ruiz-Conforto only competed in the solo, winning the silver medal.
