- Apple (APPL) is moving in the premarket following days of a downward trend, as employees from different Apple locations across the country said stores filled with customers over the weekend — with the shoppers expressing concerns that prices will climb dramatically after the levies are imposed. Most iPhones, Apple’s best-selling and most important product, are manufactured in China, which is in line for tariffs of 54%. - Robinhood (HOOD) is on the move this morning after Morgan Stanley downgraded the stock to equal weight to overweight. In a tougher macro backdrop with greater need to hedge risks, the firm sees risks for retail dis-engagement to pressure trading revenue at Robinhood, leading it to cut EPS estimates. - Tesla (TSLA) shares have climbed along with the market today. It comes as Joel Levington, Director of Credit Research for Bloomberg Intelligence, writes this morning that Elon Musk's pursuit of ambitious and high-risk bets such as the Cybertruck -- are now falling well short of sales goals even with aggressive lease discounts - and the elusive RoboTaxi are taking a toll on Tesla's fundamental performance at a critical juncture in the auto market. - Walgreens (WBA) is rising after it reported quarterly profit that exceeded Wall Street’s expectations, marking a strong performance in what is likely one of its last quarters as a public company. The absence of the American contingent from the Olympic Games in Moscow did little to lessen the tension and air of expectancy before track and field's blue riband event, the men's 100m. With the likes of Stanley Floyd and Harvey Glance being forced to watch from home in the United States, the favourites after the early rounds appeared to be Cuban Silvio Leonard, Italian floater Pietro Mennea and Pole Marian Woronin. The fact that Scotland's Wells was there at all was something of a minor miracle. The powerful Scot had been subjected to a barrage of propaganda, some from the British government itself, attempting to persuade him to join the boycott. He went to Russia on the back of some excellent form: he had won the 200m Commonwealth Games gold in Alberta in 1978 and was the British champion over 100m and 200m. While the likes of Mennea floated over the ground, Wells was a powerhouse sprinter. Barrel-chested and rippling with muscle, Wells possessed a raw power and an iron will which would prove formidable. He broke the British record in the quarter-final, and his increasingly impressive performances saw him reach the final as one of the favourites. In his way lay the mercurial Leonard, the multiple Pan-American Games champion. The two key protagonists were unusually drawn on the inside and outside lanes for the final and with 60 metres of the race over, it was clearly a two-horse race. Wells looked to have edged clear when he started an extraordinarily early dip for the line. Leonard seemed to strike back in the closing strides, but with both men given the same time it was Wells who won the gold on a photo finish. He remains the last white athlete to win the men's 100m at the Olympic Games, and was the first Briton to win gold since Harold Abrahams back at the 1924 Games in Paris. Wells missed out by a whisker on a memorable 100-200m double when the elegant Mennea pipped him at the line in the 200m final. A matter of days after the Games, Wells accepted an offer to run against the best America could offer and in Koblenz went some way to showing he was the world's fastest man by beating Floyd, Glance and a young Carl Lewis. "I don't know why I cried. This is the first time," the new Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-Na told reporters after stepping off the rink. But everyone present at Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum Arena understood why, after witnessing one of the greatest performances and most inspirational evenings in Olympic Winter Games history. The 19-year-old Korean, dancing to Gershwin's Concerto in G, delivered a mesmerising show of elegance and athleticism. She landed an opening triple lutz-triple toe combination, followed by a perfect triple flip and double axel-double toe-double loop, but just as dazzling as her huge jumps were the breathtaking grace, precision and artistry of the performance. It earned her a colossal 150.06 points in her free programme, for a world record score of 228.56. Kim's artistry was so exceptional that Japan's Mao Asada was more than 23 points behind in second despite landing two triple Axels. "She didn't miss a step," said Kim's Canadian coach Brian Orser, himself a former Olympic medallist. "She was skating with her heart. I just wanted her to have an Olympic moment. I wanted it to be Olympic and not cautious, not hold back, just go out and embrace the space, and the Olympic Games." The bronze medal was won by Canada's Joannie Rochette, who, following her courageous skate in the short programme, had the strength to turn in another remarkable performance just four days after the death of her mother, earning standing ovations from the crowd both before and after her skate. After she had finished, the 24-year-old from Quebec put her hands together and blew a kiss towards the skies. "I feel proud and the result did not matter. It was a lifetime project for me and my mom, and we achieved that," she said, adding: "She was always proud of me. She was my biggest fan, my best friend. She was with me every step of the way." Small wonder that on such an emotionally-charged night, the once-impassive Kim should be moved to tears. "Three times," answered Kim, asked how many times she had cried since winning the gold. "After my performance was over and then on the podium. [Joannie Rochette] started crying, and I started crying right with her." At the age of 27, Dawn Fraser of Australia was now considered something of a veteran, nicknamed Granny by some of her teammates. Yet if anybody in the swimming world demanded respect, it was her -- she had won the 100m freestyle title at the previous two Olympic Games, and was in no mood to relinquish her title. There was little doubt she still had the ability. In 1962, she had swum the distance in a world record time of 59.9secs, making Fraser the first woman ever to dip under a minute for the 100m. Indeed, she had set the last nine world records at the distance and had even gone below 59secs a few months before the Games began - a mark that would last into the 1970s. Just after that superb swim, though, Fraser was badly injured in a car accident that claimed the life of her mother. Fraser had to spend six weeks with her neck in plaster and, although she recovered in time to compete in Tokyo, questions were asked about her ability -- or desire -- to return from such a tragic setback. A young pretender had also emerged -- the 15-year-old American Sharon Strouder. Fraser cruised through the opening round and then set a benchmark time of 59.9secs in the semi-final. The final itself lived up to expectations -- Fraser held the lead at the turn, but Strouder came back to catch her after 70 metres. Now it became a sprint for the line -- and Fraser's depth of reserve and will-power pushed her on. She came home in 59.5secs to claim gold. Strouder, 0.4secs behind, became the only other female swimmer in history to break the minute barrier. Fraser had become the first swimmer, either man or woman, to win the same event at three successive Games. She retired from the sport after the Tokyo Games. Twenty-four years later, she was named Australia's greatest female athlete. Fraser was elected to the parliament of her region, New South Wales. The women's cross-country skiing team sprint competition at the Torino Games was thrilling for fans from start to finish. After an exciting race, it all came down to the final sprint where Sweden took first place, with Canada in second and Finland finishing third. Still, one of the most memorable moments happened during the race. When Sara Renner of Canada broke one of her poles in the cross-country skiing team sprint, Norwegian head coach Bjørnar Håkensmoen lent her one of his (albeit 12cm too long). This act of fair play and sportsmanship allowed Renner to help her team win silver, and dropped Norway out of the medals. There's something about the sprint hurdles which creates excitement on the biggest stage, and at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris the story was no different. South African Sydney Atkinson was the favourite, comfortably clocking the fastest time in the eight heats. Atkinson was a muscular runner who had metronomic timing over the obstacles and he sauntered through his semi-final in a similarly impressive time. Daniel Kinsey meanwhile was a highly proficient hurdler and won the intercollegiate title in the US before taking his place in the American squad for the trip to France. He likewise won his heat and semi-final and was expected to be a strong contender for one of the medals. In the event, Atkinson made an excellent start to the final but Kinsey matched him stride for stride. It appeared Atkinson was edging ahead in the closing stages but the big South African clipped the final obstacle and Kinsey, in the lane outside him, had sufficient momentum to carry him over the line first. Kinsey looked as surprised as anyone at his success as he shook Atkinson's hand before the world's press. Atkinson righted the wrong four years later however winning the gold medal at the Amsterdam Games. Prior to the Sapporo 1972 Olympic Games, Francisco Fernandez Ochoa's best result in international competitions had been sixth place. Yet, this time, he would achieve an incredible feat. The favourites for the slalom race came from the nations one would usually expect, such as Gustav and Rolando Thöni from Italy. This time, however, it was up to "Paquito" Fernandez Ochoa to put Spain in a surprising first place. His incredible result gave Spain their first Olympic gold medal since the Amsterdam 1928 Games and made him a local hero for years to come. After that, in 1960, Hary became the first to run the 100 metres in 10.0 seconds, setting a new world record in Zurich. So it was clear that he would be one of the top favourites for the Olympic race at the Rome Games. At the final of the men's 100 metres at the Rome Olympic Games both the tension and expectations were high for the start. And the three false starts - one of them by Hary himself - only added to the pressure. As expected, Armin Hary started faster than the other athletes and accelerated to the finish line to win the Olympic gold medal and become the "fastest man in the world" at the biggest stage available, the Olympic Games. Victoria "Vicki" Draves seemed as if she had been born to be in the water. An elegant diver, she was married to her diving coach and seemed a natural. To many who watched the 1948 Games, she seemed to have the world at her feet. Yet hers had actually been a story of struggle. The daughter of a Filipino father and an English mother, born and raised in San Francisco, she had not taken her first swimming lesson until the age of 10 and grew up in a household where money was very tight. Swimming did not seem a priority, especially as her Asian-American origins led to racial discrimination, and Draves was asked to conceal her Filipino heritage and use her mother's name - Taylor - rather than her father's - Manalo. It was only when a diving coach persuaded her to give the sport a go, at the age of 16, that her talent began to flourish. Her first national title came in 1946, the year when she married her diving coach Lyle Draves. In 1948, she excelled with gold medals from both the 3m springboard and 10m platform, a double that is much discussed, but not often achieved - Draves was the first female diver to achieve the feat. She was also the first Asian-American to win an Olympic medal. The US was delighted, and her victories were considered so impressive that Life Magazine named her, along with Decathlete Bob Mathias, as the US's best two athletes of the Games. With her easy smile and happy nature, Hollywood came calling for Draves, but she preferred to stick with the water and became a feature in the family water extravaganza shows that were popular at the time. She toured the US and Europe with Buster Crabbe's "Aqua Parade", but then settled down with her husband to set up training programmes for young swimmers and divers. Men's curling was included in the Olympic programme in 1924 at the first Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix. It was then dropped, and later re-introduced as a demonstration sport in 1932 in Lake Placid. Between 1936 and 1992, curling was staged at the Games as a demonstration sport. It was in Nagano in 1998 that it officially re-joined the Olympic programme, now with both men's and women's competitions. In the men's competition, it was up to Canada and Switzerland to define who would be the first men's curling Olympic champion since the Chamonix 1924 Winter Games. The Swiss team took no chances and beat the Canadians by 9-3 to take gold. The North Americans took silver, while the Norwegian team -- which had been beaten by the Swiss in the semi-finals -- won the bronze medal contest against the United States. Ray Barbuti had been torn between a career in running and American football after a successful collegiate career in both sports, and he was finally chosen for the 400m and the relay by the selectors for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. The track and field events started badly for the U.S. team in Holland and much of it was surprisingly down to lacklustre preparation. The U.S. trials were held only a matter of weeks before the big event and with a long travel time many of the athletes were under-cooked by the time the action got under way in the Olympic Stadium. The huge number of competitors didn't help either with 15 first-round heats and six second-round eliminators required to whittle the field down to the two six-man semi-finals. However for all the congested build-up, Barbuti's rugged, workman-like running style stood out and he was setting some of the fastest times in the first and second round. He was edged into second place in his semi-final but he still qualified for the final which was run in appallingly wet and windy conditions. However Barbuti's raw power really told on the windswept track and he powered to a commanding lead through 300m. Yet the pain was etched on his face as Canadian James Ball ate into his lead in the home straight and it was with some relief when Barbuti finished just two tenths clear of Ball in a time of 47.8secs. It was the fastest time of the competition and no mean feat given the conditions.
