Today was a powerful and emotional day as I, along with Shan ZenZen Team, traveled to the fishing community of Paraty, St. Elizabeth—one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa in October 2025. Months later, fishermen and fish vendors are still struggling to recover. Boats were damaged, equipment lost, and livelihoods disrupted. For many, the sea is their only source of income—and the impact has been devastating. But today, we came with support and love. ❤️ We distributed six large igloos to help fishermen and vendors properly store their catch, along with cash donations of $10,000 each to five individuals, including a fisherman, to help them rebuild and get back on their feet. This initiative was made possible through the generosity of the Westchester Community College community in New York, and especially Miss Melonie Cassells, a teacher who reached out with a mission—to help fellow Jamaicans whose livelihoods were directly impacted by Hurricane Melissa. We want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to Mrs Cassells and everyone who contributed. Your kindness is making a real difference. The gratitude from the fishermen and vendors in Paraty was overwhelming. And what we found will change the way you see this island forever. In 1692, Port Royal — once the most powerful city in the Caribbean — vanished into Kingston Harbour in four minutes. In 1907, thirty-six seconds was all it took to level Kingston and kill over a thousand people. Five hundred and one of them were buried in mass trenches at Bumper Hall because the coffins ran out. Most Jamaicans have never heard of that monument. Most have never been told what is still happening beneath the ground they walk on every single day. According to the University of the West Indies Mona Earthquake Unit, Jamaica recorded 663 earthquakes in 2024 alone. In 2025, over 400 more. In the first two months of 2026, two magnitude 5.6 earthquakes struck within forty-eight hours of each other. The same fault system that sank Port Royal. The same fault system that destroyed Kingston. Still active. Still building pressure. Running directly beneath this island right now. This is not about fear. This is about what happens when a people understand their history well enough to face their future — and why everything Jamaica has already survived is the greatest argument for why we need to be prepared for whatever comes next. After starting in Golden Grove and walking through the remains of several old estates, this part of the journey takes me closer to Dalvey, where I finally locate the Dalvey windmill tower — one of the most visible surviving structures from the plantation era in this area. Dalvey was one of the major sugar estates in eastern St Thomas, and the windmill tower stands as a reminder of the scale of sugar production that once dominated this landscape. As I walk the old estate roads, I talk about how these plantations were connected, how they functioned, and why some places survived as communities while others faded into history. In 2014, a prominent local resident named Jill Halliburton tragically lost her life inside her home. While initial police interviews with family members revealed major inconsistencies, investigators shifted their focus a week later to Resiles, labeling the incident a break-in gone wrong. However, defensive security measures showed that nothing was missing from the property, and no local witnesses could place Resiles at the scene. Instead, the state built its entire argument around three microscopic transfers of DNA. But as this investigative documentary uncovers, forensic tracking is rarely absolute, especially when the testing facility involved later lost its official credentials due to processing errors. Furthermore, key electronic surveillance logs reveal an even bigger contradiction: a witness who viewed the home security feed right before the event explicitly described a suspect who did not match Resiles’ description.
