Toothpaste | Ingredients With George Zaidan (Episode 1)
Ancient toothpaste used stuff like rocks and bones -- and modern toothpaste isn’t all that different. Watch as chemist George Zaidan tries to create his own homemade toothpaste. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Watch all episodes of Ingredients here: http://bit.ly/WatchIngredients ➡ Get updates and tweet episode ideas @georgezaidan UPDATE: Since we filmed this video, the FDA has banned triclosan and 18 other ingredients from “consumer antiseptic wash products” (aka soap). You can read the details below, but the FDA is basically saying that none of these ingredients clean your hands any better than plain old soap and water. The FDA did not ban triclosan from toothpaste, but you can easily check whether your toothpaste has it by checking the ingredients label. Triclosan would be listed under “Active Ingredients” in the “Drug Facts” box on the back of the package. Most toothpastes don’t have triclosan, so you can choose to brush without it if you’d like. http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm517478.htm http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm378393.htm http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/07/well/live/why-your-toothpaste-has-triclosan.html?_r=0 About Ingredients: Join MIT-trained chemist and science educator George Zaidan as he tries to recreate everyday household products like toothpaste, lipstick, or shaving cream using only natural ingredients… and no recipe! He’ll have to decode long lists of intimidating chemical names, figure out what they all do, try and find natural substitutes, and then cook up the do-it-yourself versions in his chemistry lab (kitchen). While George may or may not succeed, we'll all learn something new and surprising about the products we take for granted every day. Ferrari Luce- Company's First EV, Gets Brutal Reviews
Ferrari’s first fully electric car is already dividing fans. Critics say the $640,000 EV looks more like a Nissan Leaf or "a bar of soap" than a Ferrari, but the company may not care. Bloomberg's Craig Trudell joins Open Interest to explain why Ferrari only needs a handful of wealthy buyers to make the Luce a success, and how the brand could use the EV to unlock access to future supercars. The car's launch comes as demand for high-end electric vehicles has become harder to predict, with some rivals slowing their electrification plans due to a lack of buying interest. The Luce's design, which was shaped by Apple Inc.'s former head of design Jony Ive, drew largely negative reactions from industry analysts and social media influencers. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? In April 2013 a team of National Geographic engineers packed up their cameras and headed to Miami. They were on an expedition to investigate deep-ocean creatures that exist hundreds of meters below the surface alongside plankton. Unfortunately, a harsh storm hit on the evening of May 2, several miles off the coast, and the engineers lost their Driftcams out to sea. Three years later, the engineering team was contacted by a Frenchman sailing across the Atlantic. Each year, Eric Visage travels from the Caribbean to his home in France accompanied by his little dog, Scuba. “My dog began to bark, and we saw this ball.” Visage had recovered one of the Driftcams—thousands of miles from where it had originally been deployed. World Cup Expected to Generate $80 Billion in Global Spending
Jen Bartashus, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Retail Staples Analyst, discussed the significant economic impact of the upcoming World Cup, estimating global spending to reach $80 billion. She highlighted the event as one of the largest sporting occasions worldwide, driving substantial retail and consumer activity. However, Bartashus noted the unique challenge for the United States, where soccer is less popular compared to other countries, making the domestic economic impact of hosting the tournament uncertain and closely watched.
