INTERPRETIVE NOTE
This documentary carefully distinguishes the biblical text from later interpretation. Genesis does not give the detailed Watchers narrative found in First Enoch, does not describe Enoch touring heaven, and does not identify him as Metatron or as one of Revelation’s two witnesses. Those ideas come from ancient Jewish literature, later religious traditions, or theological interpretation and are presented as such.
First Enoch is examined because of its importance in ancient Jewish thought, its connection with traditions reflected in Jude, its preservation among the Dead Sea Scrolls, and its survival within Ethiopian Christian tradition—not because every detail in the work is being presented as part of the biblical canon.
Enoch’s story begins with only a few verses, but those verses created questions that have survived for thousands of years.
