After Years of War and Violence, This Colombian Woman Still Can't Return Home | National Geographic
As Colombia’s new president, Ivan Duque, is inaugurated, many Colombians displaced from their homes are concerned for their future under new government leadership. During the country’s 52-year war, which ended almost two years ago, seven million people were internally displaced as the Colombian government fought against leftist guerrilla fighters of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC. Maria de los Santos Caseres was one of them. ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. US Is running out of options for Iran, says Michael Allen of Beacon Global Strategies
Michael Allen, Beacon Global Strategies Managing Director, says President Trump and his team have a decreasing number of options to secure a deal with Iran, citing concerns that any agreement could be vague and may not deliver the concessions the US needs. Allen also says Operation Epic Fury and the subsequent conflict could end up being a strategic loss for the United States if the US is unable to reopen or neutralize the Strait. He speaks with Kailey Leinz and Joe Mathieu on Bloomberg’s "Balance of Power." -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? It serves as an example of sustainable agriculture with traditional techniques. For 2,000 years the mountains of Ifugao province have been cultivated with terraced fields that climb thousands of feet. These fields, and the knowledge to farm them, have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. They have long been central to the survival of the Ifugao peoples but they also occupy a central importance within their culture. Entire communities cooperate on seasonal systems of planting, pest control, and harvest. The coordinated efforts are tied to lunar cycles and sometimes accompanied with religious rituals. The UNESCO site encompasses five different clusters of rice terraces in the area. The Banaue Rice Terraces are the most famous of the lot. Banaue is approximately 230 miles north of Manila, and buses depart daily from the capital. It can take up to ten hours to make it up the mountainous terrain to the rice fields. Take a guided hiking tour and make sure to pack a picnic for an outstanding view of this remarkable landscape. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, says he would be “shocked” if President Trump agreed to delay the nuclear component of any Iran deal, warning the choice is “unbelievable hostilities or a deal” and saying more military strikes may be needed to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capability. He also backs Trump’s proposed weaponization fund while saying he won’t seek taxpayer compensation himself, predicts Raúl Castro will leave Cuba before the US “pick[s] him up,” and says Republicans will hold Texas despite the bruising Cornyn-Paxton primary. They then send the birds out on leashes to retrieve sweetfish. When a cormorant catches a fish, the fish gets stuck in the bird’s throat. The keeper then pulls the bird back to the boat and dislodges its catch by putting pressure on its throat. At the end of the fishing session, they untie the snare and the cormorant gets to eat. It’s a major tourist attraction in Japan and occurs throughout the summer, but raises ethical questions amongst animal rights activists.
