SHOCKING Cold Threatens Tropical Fruit Trees in South Florida
South Florida is known for warm weather and tropical fruit trees—but we are not truly tropical. In this video, I break down what happens when cold frost and freezing temperatures hit tropical and subtropical fruit trees like mango, jackfruit, star apple (caimito), mamey sapote, jujube, and more.
With an Arctic blast / cold front approaching, many growers are panicking. I want to calm everyone down, share real-world experience, and explain:
Which fruit trees are most at risk
Why mango trees are more cold-tolerant than people think
Why potted trees are the most vulnerable
What growers in Central Florida do every year
When protection helps—and when prayer and acceptance matter most
I also share lessons from experienced growers, including Tropical Acres Farms, Zay’s World Nursery, and Richard Campbell, and why attitude matters just as much as technique when growing fruit trees in South Florida.
