The Book of Jubilees Explained! — The Full Bible Story | biblical origins
This video explores the Book of Jubilees, an ancient Jewish retelling of Genesis and early Exodus featuring Creation, Enoch, the Watchers, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Mastema, and sacred time.
You’ll understand what Jubilees actually says, how it differs from the Bible, why its 364-day calendar matters, and what the Dead Sea Scrolls reveal about its place in ancient Judaism.
The Book of Jubilees explained is a journey through one of the most fascinating writings of Second Temple Judaism. Beginning with Moses at Mount Sinai, Jubilees retells biblical history from Creation and Eden through the Watchers and Nephilim, Noah’s Flood, Babel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Egypt, Passover, and the Exodus. Along the way, this documentary examines mysterious figures such as Mastema, the heavenly tablets, angelic rebellion, sacred festivals, covenant identity, and Jubilees’ controversial 364-day calendar. We also explore the Hebrew manuscripts discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran, the book’s preservation in Ethiopia, and the question many viewers ask: Is Jubilees a lost book of the Bible? Most importantly, the video carefully separates what Genesis and Exodus actually say from later interpretations preserved in Jubilees.

Main Biblical Sources
Genesis 1–50 — Creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Enoch, Genesis 6, Noah, Babel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Judah and Tamar.
Exodus 1–15; 19–24 — Israel’s slavery, Moses, the plagues, Passover, the Exodus, the Red Sea, and Mount Sinai.
Leviticus 16; 23; 25 — Day of Atonement, biblical festivals, Sabbaths, and the Jubilee cycle.
Genesis 6:1–4 is especially important when comparing the biblical “sons of God” and Nephilim with Jubilees’ expanded Watcher tradition.
Interpretation Note
The Book of Jubilees is not identical to Genesis or Exodus. For most Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox Christians, Jubilees is not part of the biblical canon, although it has a different status within the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition.
Details such as the Watchers being sent to teach humanity, spirits of the dead giants, Mastema, heavenly tablets, precise dates for patriarchal events, Abraham destroying idols, Mastema’s role in Abraham’s test and Moses’ journey, patriarchs observing later Israelite festivals, the connection between Joseph’s bloodstained garment and the Day of Atonement, and the 364-day calendar belong to Jubilees’ interpretation and expansion of biblical history. They should not be presented as though Genesis or Exodus explicitly records them.
