Trump Adds $100,000 Fee for H-1B Visa Applications
Bloomberg's Hadriana Lowenkron breaks down President Trump's overhaul of the H-1B visa process, with the administration now requiring a $100,000 fee for applications. President Trump signed an executive order that restricts entry under the H-1B program unless accompanied by the payment, and asserts that abuse of the H-1B pathway has displaced US workers. The move will require a “$100,000 payment to accompany or supplement H-1B petitions for new applications,” according to a White House fact sheet. That payment would be in addition to current fees, which are more modest. Fees directly tied to the H-1B visa application currently include a $215 fee to register for the lottery alongside various filing fees. -------- Watch Bloomberg Radio LIVE on YouTube Weekdays 7am-6pm ET WATCH HERE: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF Follow us on X: https://twitter.com/BloombergRadio Subscribe to our Podcasts: Bloomberg Daybreak: http://bit.ly/3DWYoAN Bloomberg Surveillance: http://bit.ly/3OPtReI Bloomberg Intelligence: http://bit.ly/3YrBfOi Balance of Power: http://bit.ly/3OO8eLC Bloomberg Businessweek: http://bit.ly/3IPl60i Listen on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the Bloomberg Business app: Apple CarPlay: https://apple.co/486mghI Android Auto: https://bit.ly/49benZy Visit our YouTube channels: Bloomberg Podcasts: https://www.youtube.com/bloombergpodcasts Bloomberg Television: https://www.youtube.com/@markets Bloomberg Originals: https://www.youtube.com/bloomberg Quicktake: https://www.youtube.com/@BloombergQuicktake

Is the Fed really independent? #politics
Is the Fed really is as independent as some pundits want it to be? The recent confirmation of Trump's pick Stephen Miran, who is also keeping his job in the White House, has brought this question to the forefront of everyone's minds. @svaneksmith and @chafkin ask @ChopraUSAhis thoughts on this week's episode of Everybody's Business. Listen and subscribe: https://link.podtrac.com/6mnyjl2l On the episode: On this week’s episode of Everybody’s Business we're joined by Rohit Chopra, former director of the now largely kneecapped Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He argues that Trump’s efforts to apply political pressure to the Fed present an opportunity to scrutinize the central bank’s decision-making. Chopra points out that the Fed’s governors, who tend to either come from academia or Wall Street, originally came from a more eclectic array of backgrounds—with perhaps more sensitivity to the needs of small business owners and consumers. “I really think a good central bank is really good for democracy,” Chopra says. “But I think it has to also change with the times so that it is responsive and that it is not seen as a group of priests and priestesses who make determinations about our lives without really understanding how the economy is working on the ground.” Also this week, we bring in Bloomberg News reporter Randall Williams to unpack the story that is currently roiling the world of professional basketball: allegations that Los Angeles Clippers-owner Steve Ballmer improperly funneled payments to one of the team’s stars via a dubious (and now bankrupt) fintech company, Aspiration. Ballmer has denied the allegations, which first surfaced in an episode of the podcast Pablo Torre Finds Out. Aspiration’s co-founder has denied being party to any scheme to evade the salary cap. Williams explains why the story has garnered so much interest among NBA owners and how it illustrates the importance of salary caps in order to maintain competitive balance. Finally, we unpack a strange case of fake branding, involving the logo of Elon Musk’s aerospace company.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Trump Tells Nvidia CEO He's Taking Over the World - Full Press Conference with UK's Starmer
US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer unveiled a new technology partnership at a business roundtable Thursday, where they were joined by executives highlighting efforts to deepen ties on artificial intelligence and digital assets. The agreement will create “billions of dollars in opportunities for American farmers to sell their products into the UK, reduce barriers to trade and give the US manufacturers better access to the UK’s world-class aerospace supply chain which is really, really is world class,” Trump said at the event. In recent days, Microsoft Corp., OpenAI and other American companies made public plans to spend tens of billions of dollars on technology infrastructure in the UK. The British government has also touted investments totaling $250 billion (£150 billion) from American businesses, capped by commitments from Blackstone Inc., software company Palantir Technologies Inc. and logistics company Prologis Inc., that will result in creating some 7,600 jobs. The leaders also touted joint efforts to streamline approval and construction of nuclear power plants which are seen as critical for powering energy-hungry data centers necessary for emerging technologies.  “It’s a blueprint to win this new era together, shape it according to our shared values and seize the incredible opportunities that are on offer,” Starmer said. “I want to thank all of you for supporting this vision. We have huge new investments from Nvidia, Nscale, OpenAI, Google, Salesforce and many more backing cutting-edge British jobs for years to come.” -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video?
