BlackRock Portfolio Manager of the Systemic Multi-Strategy Fund Jeff Rosenberg talks about the impact of the November US employment report on inflation and fixed income. He says markets reacted to the higher than expected unemployment rate. “If we look at November payrolls, 64,000 was pretty close to expectations and don’t forget we will have another payroll number before the January meeting, that’s going to make these other two much less important," he said on "Bloomberg Surveillance." -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? Brent Oil Extends Slide Below $60, Trump Sues BBC for $10 Billion | The Opening Trade 12/16
Oil extended declines, with Brent crude slipping below $60 a barrel for the first time since May, as indications grow that supply is outpacing demand against the backdrop of efforts to end the war in Ukraine. President Donald Trump sued the BBC for at least $10 billion over a misleading edit in a documentary last year that gave the impression he’d made a direct call for violence in a speech leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by his supporters. The lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corp. was filed Monday in federal court in Miami. The Opening Trade has everything you need to know as markets open across Europe. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he has an agreement with the US to make security guarantees legally binding through a vote in Congress as part of a deal to end Russia’s war. He offered no details in online audio comments to Ukrainian media late Monday. Meanwhile, the European Union is set to propose softening emissions rules for new cars, scrapping an effective ban on combustion engines following months of pressure from the automotive industry. The proposal will allow carmakers to slow the rollout of electric vehicles in Europe and aligns the region more closely with the US, where President Donald Trump is tearing up efficiency standards for cars put in place by the previous administration.
