Applications for US unemployment benefits fell by the most since November as initial claims decreased by 23,000 to 206,000 in the week ended Feb. 14. Meanwhile, the US trade deficit widened in December, from the prior month to $70.3 billion, with the shortfall culminating in a full-year deficit of $901.5 billion. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of the UK’s King Charles, has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office after further details of his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein emerged. Thames Valley Police confirmed that the force had opened an investigation into an offense of misconduct in public office, and had arrested a man in his sixties. The US military build-up in the Middle East means Iran’s window to reach a diplomatic agreement over its atomic activities is at risk of closing, according to the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog.
