The US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire and Tehran pledged to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a last-ditch deal that saw President Donald Trump back off from threats to escalate the war. NOAA scientists clearing the Pacific Ocean of discarded fishing nets and other dangerous trash found a green sea turtle still alive but entangled in a net. The divers were able to cut the net and free the turtle. The oceans are filled with trash, and some of it is especially damaging to sea life. An 11.5-ton fishing net drifting near the northern Hawaiian Islands tore coral and trapped sea life, including green sea turtles and reef sharks. Scientists who regularly scour the waters for removable trash tried for more than a year to find this garbage behemoth. They finally located it last year but had to cut it into several pieces in order to lift it out of the water. This year, more than 3,000 sea lion pups have been abandoned by their mothers along California's northern coast. Warmer ocean waters are affecting the food supply, and the mothers are moving farther north, perhaps unable to take their pups with them. People can save some of these sea lion pups.
