Collecting Poop to Save a National Park | Expedition Raw
The civil war in Mozambique ended more than 20 years ago, but many victims have yet to recover. During the 15-year war, large wildlife such as lions, elephants, and hippos in Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park declined by more than 90 percent. "The rebel soldiers were poaching animals to eat them, but they were also hunting animals in order to trade their parts for weapons," explains wildlife ecologist and National Geographic Young Explorer Jen Guyton. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Watch all clips of Expedition Raw here: http://bit.ly/WatchmoreExpeditionRaw ➡ Get More Expedition Raw on Youtube: http://bit.ly/NGExpeditionRaw About Expedition Raw: Surprises, challenges, and amazing behind-the-scenes moments captured by National Geographic explorers in the field. Some of them are lone wolves; others have their families beside them. All must overcome despairing odds to brave the wild and survive through to the spring. Behind The Paris Climate Conference with National Geographic Explorers | National Geographic
"The annual ""Conference of the Parties"" (COP) is not as lighthearted as it sounds. It is famously one of the most difficult attempts at intergovernmental cooperation on Earth. This year's agreement on commitments for climate change mitigation and adaptation has taken many months and even years to formulate and gather all the support it needed. For a few days before COP though, as there has been for the past decade, there was the Conference of Youth. Here, without the onus of getting nearly 200 countries to agree on something, there was much more of a spirit of challenge, inspiration, and even celebration. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. TIL: Vultures Have to Eat Animals Butt-First | Today I Learned
Depending on your beliefs (and luck), when you drop dead, a variety of things await what’s left of your handsome corpse. If you’re Christian, you might be put in a box, and your friends will come by to tell each other how great you look. Nobody said this when you were alive—but hey, take what you can get! Hindus are typically cremated, and if you’re a Jedi, you might meet a similar fate while surrounded by Ewoks. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Watch All Today I Learned Clips here: http://bit.ly/2WatchTodayILearned ➡ Get More TIL (Today I Learned): http://bit.ly/MoreTIL About TIL (Today I Learned): Love crazy facts? If you kick the bucket in certain parts of Mozambique, a wake of vultures might gather round and peck out your lifeless eyeballs. After devouring your eyes, these scavenging birds will most likely move on to your butt. Like Sir Mix-A-Lot—but for different reasons—vultures are preoccupied with the derriere. Vultures are just opportunists, and they naturally go after the soft spots first. National Geographic Explorer Jen Guyton is studying mammal ecology and conservation in Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. In this week’s Today I Learned, Guyton explains that vultures are eating more tush than usual due to loss of larger scavengers. Bon appétit!
