Household and grocery waste are two of the biggest reasons for the problem. However, one of the biggest culprits is the casting off of so-called “ugly” foods. At your local market, perfectly formed, beautifully colored fruits and vegetables surround shoppers. Sure, they exist, but these foods are the supermodels of the agricultural world. Most fruits and vegetables come in a variety of shapes and sizes, which are cosmetically far removed from what you find on grocery shelves. As a result of our expectations, perfectly good food regularly goes to waste. Polar bear cannibalism likely isn't a rare event, but it's rarely witnessed by people. This may be the first time it's been captured so well on video. During a Lindblad Expeditions trip on the National Geographic Explorer in the Arctic, crew and passengers spotted a male polar bear hunting and then eating a polar bear cub, despite the efforts of the cub's mother to protect it. Meta Platforms Inc. shares slid after the company raised its spending outlook for the year, reigniting fears that the historic levels of investment it’s making to build artificial intelligence models won’t pay off. The social-media giant projected full-year capital expenditures between $125 billion and $145 billion, far exceeding analysts’ estimates and marking a roughly 7.4% increase from what the company had previously projected. During the decade-long civil war in Sierra Leone, rebels would cut off the arms and legs of civilians as a scare tactic, leaving behind thousands of war amputees. After the war, 2015 National Geographic Emerging Explorer David Moinina Sengeh, who was born and raised in Sierra Leone, became involved in helping these amputees.
