Evelyn Farkas: Iran's Nuclear Program is the "Number One Problem"
The US is waiting on Iran to respond to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end a war that’s killed thousands of people, with tensions still high in both the Persian Gulf and in Lebanon. Iran’s leaders are yet to indicate whether they’ll accept the terms of the deal, though they’ve previously shown little sign of yielding on their nuclear program and accepting a moratorium on enriching uranium, both top US demands. This comes amid Wall Street Journal reports that the US is seeking to restart the Hormuz mission as early as this week, and that Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are lifting curbs on US military access to bases. Evelyn Farkas is Executive Director of the McCain Institute and Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia. She speaks with Bloomberg's Kailey Leinz on Balance of Power. -------- Watch Bloomberg Radio LIVE on YouTube Weekdays 7am-6pm ET Saturday & Sunday 7am-10am ET WATCH HERE: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF Follow us on X: https://twitter.com/BloombergRadio Subscribe to our Podcasts: Bloomberg Daybreak: http://bit.ly/3DWYoAN Bloomberg Surveillance: http://bit.ly/3OPtReI Bloomberg Intelligence: http://bit.ly/3YrBfOi Balance of Power: http://bit.ly/3OO8eLC Bloomberg Businessweek: http://bit.ly/3IPl60i Listen on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the Bloomberg Business app: Apple CarPlay: https://apple.co/486mghI Android Auto: https://bit.ly/49benZy Visit our YouTube channels: Bloomberg Podcasts: https://www.youtube.com/bloombergpodcasts Bloomberg Television: https://www.youtube.com/@markets Bloomberg Originals: https://www.youtube.com/bloomberg Quicktake: https://www.youtube.com/@BloombergQuicktake

Oil Prices Whipsaw as US-Iran try to work out deal to end war
Oil dipped in a volatile session as the US waited on Iran’s response to its proposal to end the war and reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz. West Texas Intermediate crude futures briefly dipped as much as 5.5% to trade below $90 a barrel before paring most losses amid signs that Iran continues to assert its control of the crucial oil and natural gas transit route. Prices slumped 8% on Wednesday with renewed hope that the conflict, which has sparked a global energy crisis, might soon come to an end.   US President Donald Trump is seeking an exit from the war, which has sent oil prices soaring and could damage the Republican Party’s political standing ahead of the fall midterm elections. The ongoing closure of Hormuz has been a major sticking point, and leveraging tool, between Tehran and Washington. The US has presented a one-page memorandum of understanding that will potentially lead to the gradual reopening of Hormuz, a person familiar with the matter previously said. Iran is expected to send a response via Pakistan, acting as a mediator, in the next two days. The country’s leaders are yet to indicate whether they’ll accept the terms. We get reaction from Mike McGlone, Senior Commodity Strategist for Bloomberg Intelligence. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? Wall Street Bonuses Expected to Rise Again

Wall Street Bonuses Expected to Rise Again
It’s a lucrative time to be a banker, for now. Wall Street bonuses are projected to jump for the third year in a row as market volatility fuels trading demand and dealmaking makes its long-awaited comeback. For investment bankers who advise corporate clients on deals, incentive pay is poised to be up 10% to 20% or more from a year earlier, according to Johnson Associates Inc. Bankers who help companies raise equity are likely to see a similar bump, of as much as 20% or more, the compensation consultant said in a report Thursday. That expected increase follows a banner 2025 for Wall Street, reflecting a rebound in mergers and acquisitions helped by relaxed regulations under President Donald Trump — a trend that’s continued into the new year, with the biggest banks reporting their most profitable quarter ever for the first three months of 2026. What do you do with 2,000 pounds of produce that's perfectly edible but a little blemished? You could throw it out, contributing to the massive food waste problem, which results in roughly a third of the world's food supply going to waste. Or you could collect it, chop it up, and cook it into a meal for more than 5,000 people. That's what volunteers in Washington, D.C., did as part of the Feeding the 5000 campaign, which has held similar events around the world to draw attention to food waste. ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for critically acclaimed storytelling around science and exploration. About Life Below Zero: Life Below Zero follows six people as they battle for the most basic necessities in the state with the lowest population density in the United States. Living at the ends of the world's loneliest roads and subsisting off the rugged Alaskan bush, they battle whiteout snow storms, man-eating carnivores, questionable frozen terrain, and limited resources through a long and bitter winter. Some of them are lone wolves; others have their families beside them. All must overcome despairing odds to brave the wild and survive through to the spring. And when spring arrives in Alaska, rising temperatures bring mounting challenges as they work to prepare for yet another winter.
