One Man’s Walk in the Snow Creates a Giant Masterpiece | Short Film Showcase
Simon Beck is a snow artist who creates huge designs in the snow by simply walking in a pair of snowshoes. He believes that inspiration goes before motivation, and nature's perfect patterns inspire him to create something new every time out. This short documentary by Flash Studio follows Beck's preparations for a piece he did in Stryn, Norway, on a day of good snow. Watch and join him as he catches a first glimpse of a masterpiece that, after many steps and calculations, would most likely be covered in two days. US Tells Iran ‘Clock Is Ticking’, Stocks Fall as Brent Hits $110 | The Opening Trade 5/18/2026
US President Donald Trump expressed frustration with Iran and told it the “clock is ticking,” hours after drones targeted a nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates. Tehran “better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them,” Trump said on Truth Social on Sunday. These were his most belligerent comments regarding the Iran war, which remains in a fragile ceasefire, since he returned to the US from China on Friday. Stocks fell as the stalemate between the US and Iran kept driving oil prices higher, while bonds found some stability after last week’s global selloff. The Opening Trade has everything you need to know as markets open across Europe. Riding the Well of Death: Inside a Dangerous Carnival Stunt | Short Film Showcase
Maut ka kuan—Well of Death—is a carnival stunt that involves cars, motorcycles, brave drivers, speed, and precision. Inside a wooden barrel, drivers defy gravity using friction and centrifugal force while the crowd looks on from above. Riding at a 90-degree incline, the men rely on engine power to perform, while the lights and noise complete the experience for the audience. It's not hard to believe that it's a popular attraction. Director Erik Morales of the filmmaking collective Canada traveled to northern India to document the "ordinary guys who risk it all to do extraordinary things." ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Short Film Showcase: http://bit.ly/ShortFilmShowcase About Short Film Showcase: The Short Film Showcase spotlights exceptional short videos created by filmmakers from around the web and selected by National Geographic editors. Elon Musk said he’s back in Texas working on plans for an initial public offering of SpaceX as the rocket and artificial intelligence company gears up for the largest listing of all time. “We’ve got to get the SpaceX IPO stuff going here pretty soon,” the billionaire said, giving a reason for appearing virtually, instead of in person, at the Samson International Smart Mobility Summit in Tel Aviv on Monday. Musk’s SpaceX, which has grown into one of the most influential companies in the space industry with billions of dollars in government contracts and considerable political sway, could file for an initial public offering as soon as this week, people familiar with the matter said. Originally from the Indo-Pacific region, lionfish were introduced to Florida’s coast in the 1980s. They have since spread throughout the western Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. These “vacuums of the sea” feed on native fish species and wreck ecosystems important to biodiversity and local economies. Lionfish are prolific breeders. With no natural predators, and the ability to reproduce every four days, a lionfish and its offspring can produce 8.1 quintillion eggs in just three months. That’s a lot of caviar! Spencer explains how some coastal villages have found an innovative way to take their ocean back: jewelry. Women living in these communities are turning the lionfish’s beautiful, venomous spines into unique fashion accessories that tourists crave, and this increase in demand incentivizes fisherman to pull more lionfish out of the ocean. “They’re the ultimate conversation starter,” Spencer says, and tourists buying lionfish jewelry is helping spark conversations about the invasive species around the world. Trumps Says Clock is Ticking for Iran | Daybreak Europe 05/18/2026
Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we'll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins. On today's show, the global bond selloff deepens as rising oil prices fuel inflation concerns. President Trump has warned Iran that the 'clock is ticking' for a deal to be done to end the war, but both sides remain at loggerheads. Spiking bond yields are likely to dominate a meeting of G-7 finance ministers in Paris, as oil-fueled inflation threatens global growth. The French Finance Minister Roland Lescure tells Bloomberg the bond market is correcting rather than collapsing. Plus, data from China show growth slowed across the board in April, indicating that booming exports are no longer offsetting deteriorating domestic consumption in the world's second-largest economy. Fixed-asset investment unexpectedly shrank, retail sales missed forecasts and industrial production grew at its weakest in almost three years. Today's guests: Seema Shah, Principal Asset Management, Chief Global Strategist; Roland Lescure, French Finance Minister. First Look: Go Inside the World’s Deepest Underwater Cave | National Geographic
A Czech-Polish team of explorers has discovered that an underwater cave known as Hranická Propast in eastern Czechia (Czech Republic) drops to a point about 1,325 feet below ground, making it the deepest opening of its kind in the world. For team leader and National Geographic grantee Krzysztof Starnawski, the discovery is the culmination of years of exploration at the site, named for the nearby town of Hranice. To help a remotely operated vehicle reach the record-breaking point, Starnawski dived about half the depth of the cave and placed a lighted cable at the newly formed mouth to the deepest chamber. Following decompression, he rejoined his colleagues to watch as the small submarine’s video feed recorded the new sounding. ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. The organization's main goal is to bring wildlife traffickers to justice, and so far the EAGLE Network has succeeded in jailing more than a thousand wildlife traffickers while winning many international awards for its work. Honig takes the stage to share his passion for wildlife and to talk about why fighting wildlife crime is hard. The Republican-led Congress, faced with deepening economic discontent exacerbated by President Donald Trump’s Iran war, is struggling to find consensus on any plan to address the cost of living with less than six months before midterm elections. Frustration is building among vulnerable GOP lawmakers and moderates who say the party is wasting valuable time on issues that aren’t resonating with Americans while ignoring the concerns about prices and inflation dominating the campaign trail. Bloomberg's Balance of Power's Kailey Leinz and Joe Mathieu hit the road to preview elections in Georgia. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video?
