US and Israeli jets struck Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and other targets, hours after President Donald Trump had suggested negotiations with Tehran over an interim deal were progressing. The attack took place south of Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, with several Iranian personnel killed, Iran’s state-run Nour News reported, without providing further details. Trump earlier said negotiations between the US and Iran over an agreement to extend their ceasefire and reopen the strait were “proceeding nicely.” Meanwhile the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called US State Secretary Marco Rubio to advise him to evacuate US citizens and diplomats from Kyiv, as the Kremlin plans to continue heavy strikes on the Ukrainian capital, according to a statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry Monday. Most snails withdraw into their shells and wait until their attackers leave them alone. The researchers suggest that the type of shell and the snails’ defense strategies are interrelated. They also conclude that interactions with predators play a significant role on how snails evolved to defend themselves. Treating Parkinson’s Disease: Brain Surgery and the Placebo Effect | National Geographic
At the University of Florida, Parkinson’s disease patient Russell Price undergoes surgery to implant a deep brain stimulation (DBS) lead that will deliver electrical impulses to motion-controlling parts of his brain, treatment which has been shown to provide substantial relief from symptoms in appropriately selected patients. Additional improvement in some patients may also derive from the mere expectation that the procedure will help—the so-called placebo effect. “It’s not a magical thing,” says neurologist Michael Okun. “It’s another part of the brain that is producing a beneficial effect not directly related to the action of our treatment.” ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Congo Ebola Epidemic Is ‘Outpacing’ Response, WHO Says
Ebola is spreading faster in Democratic Republic of Congo than responders can contain it, the World Health Organization warned, as suspected deaths climbed above 220 and treatment centers came under attack in the country’s conflict-hit east. The crisis has drawn about $500 million in global pledges. Bloomberg's Janice Kew reports. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? Time-Lapse: A Hypnotic Look at Voyageurs National Park | Short Film Showcase
In the northernmost tip of Minnesota, Voyageurs National Park is a watery wonderland of pristine lakes, big fish, and incredible night skies. With a third of its area covered by lakes, the park is named for the fur-trading French Canadian voyageurs who paddled birchbark canoes in the 18th and 19th centuries. In this hypnotizing time-lapse, filmmakers Will Pattiz and Jim Pattiz capture the dancing northern lights and scenic beauty of Voyageurs National Park. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Short Film Showcase: http://bit.ly/ShortFilmShowcase About Short Film Showcase: The Short Film Showcase spotlights exceptional short videos created by filmmakers from around the web and selected by National Geographic editors.
