The course, The Opioid Crisis in America, challenges preconceptions about addiction and about who can become addicted to opioids, and this animation illustrates changes in the brain that lead to addiction. Dr. Elena Chartoff and Dr. Hilary Connery, both of Boston’s McLean Hospital advised on the brain science within this animation. Beached whales can normally only survive a day or two. Out of the ten, six were successfully rescued and released back to the sea—four others did not survive. It's unclear why whales beach themselves, but it may be due to sickness, getting lost, confusion from acoustic interference, or as a sign of solidarity with a stranded pod member.
