RAHAB: The Outcast of Jericho Who Became Part of Jesus’ Lineage — Why Did God Choose Her?
#CompleteBibleStories #FullBibleStory #bibledocumentary
This video tells the biblical story of Rahab, the Canaanite woman of Jericho who hid Israel’s spies, survived the fall of the city, joined Israel, and later appeared in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.
You’ll understand why Rahab’s faith and actions mattered, what the scarlet cord meant, how the New Testament remembers her, and what Scripture does—and does not—say about why God chose Rahab.
Rahab’s story is one of the Bible’s most remarkable accounts of faith, mercy, courage, and transformation. Before the walls of Jericho fell, Rahab had already heard what the LORD had done for Israel. While the rest of Jericho feared, she made a costly decision: she protected the Israelite spies and confessed that the LORD is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.
In this Bible study, we follow Rahab from Joshua 2 through the fall of Jericho, her rescue with her family, her life among Israel, and her surprising place in the genealogy of Jesus. We also examine how Hebrews remembers her faith and how James points to the actions that demonstrated what she believed.

MAIN SCRIPTURE SOURCES
Joshua 2:1–24 — Rahab receives and protects the spies, confesses faith in the LORD, and receives the promise of rescue.
Joshua 3–5 — Israel crosses the Jordan and prepares to enter the Promised Land.
Joshua 6:1–27 — The fall of Jericho, Rahab’s rescue, and her inclusion among Israel.
Matthew 1:1–6 — Rahab appears in the genealogy leading through Boaz, Obed, Jesse, David, and ultimately to Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 11:30–31 — Rahab is remembered as an example of faith.
James 2:14–26 — Rahab is presented as an example of faith demonstrated through action.
INTERPRETATION NOTES
Scripture identifies Rahab as a prostitute and a Canaanite woman from Jericho, but it does not explicitly state that she was socially rejected or treated as an “outcast” by everyone in the city.
The scarlet cord is explicitly presented in Joshua as the identifying sign connected to the promise that Rahab’s household would be spared. Christian interpreters have sometimes connected its scarlet color with blood, Passover, sacrifice, or Christ, but Joshua itself does not explicitly identify the cord as a prophecy of Jesus.
Matthew states that Salmon fathered Boaz by Rahab, but Joshua does not explain how Rahab and Salmon met, does not describe their marriage, and does not identify Salmon as one of the two spies.
The Bible also does not record a direct explanation from God stating why Rahab specifically was chosen to enter the lineage leading to Jesus. The video’s theological reflections are based on what Scripture does emphasize about Rahab: she heard, believed, acted in faith, sought mercy, was rescued, and became part of Israel.
