World Athletics President, Lord Sebastian Coe’s visit was supposed to be a tour of western Jamaica; ground zero. In global sport governance, this is where decisions are made. Funding is not unlocked in hotel ballrooms. It is unlocked on muddy tracks, flooded fields, and damaged campuses. But on the very day that tour was scheduled, the Government’s Cultural and Sports Minister chose instead to travel with the Prime Minister to Accompong Town for Maroon festivities. No one was available to accompany him to ground zero and he left with US$6 million still in his pockets.
