From the director of ‘Goldman Sachs: The Bank that Rules the World’ comes a major new investigation into corruption at one of the world’s top financial institutions – HSBC. If HSBC were a country, it would be the fifth world economic power. Founded during the golden age of the Opium trade to enable the British Empire to access the Chinese market, it has created a unique network to move dirty money around the world. From tax evasion to money laundering for the mafia and manipulation of currency, “this bank had done everything bad that a bank can possibly do.” In 2012, HSBC nearly lost its license to operate in the US for laundering the money of the Mexican and Columbian drug cartels. Criminal charges were filed and HSBC’s executives hauled before a Senate committee. But George Osborne, UK’s then Chancellor of the Exchequer, wrote to his counterpart in America and to the Chairman of the Federal Reserve to plead for leniency. He claimed that if HSBC received a harsh punishment, it would have serious repercussions on the world’s financial and economic stability. The letter worked and HSBC was fined 2 billion euros. The equivalent of one month’s profits. As the center of international finance moves to Asia, HSBC is in prime position. It is the most Chinese of Western banks and the most European of Chinese banks. The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Minister of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, was aboard a plane that crash-landed on Monday while travelling to the site of a fatal accident at a semi-industrial copper mine in Lualaba province. The delegation was visiting the site of an incident, which occurred on Saturday (15 November), involving a bridge collapse that killed around 30 people, according to the country’s artisanal mining agency. Dramatic footage filmed inside the aircraft captured the moment it crash-landed in the southeastern city of Kolwezi, the capital of Lualaba province. Images from the scene show the plane’s fuselage completely burned out. No casualties were reported. Here is the description of the Little Gem Mango from Tropical Acres Farms website https://www.tropicalacresfarms.com/product-page/little-gem Little Gem was a selection from the breeding program of Gary Zill, originally planting number 29-26. It was a Julie seedling, and its pollen parent may have been 'Gary'. The fruit is small and round, turning orange near maturity sometimes with some reddish blush as well. The skin is thick, and flesh firm but fiber-free. It has a very nice medium bodied Indian/West Indian-type flavor. The fruit have *outstanding* disease resistance. The seed is small and monoembryonic, and makes very nice rootstock. The trees are low-to-moderately vigorous, compact growers with very dense canopy. They tend to be heavy producers of late season fruit that ripen from the end of July well into August. Little Gem has been one of the more impressive performing later season mangos amongst the newer hybrids, and we now have several of them growing in our program. It is likely a very good choice for backyards anywhere in south Florida as well as commercial groves due to its high productivity and excellent disease resistance.
