Worlds Most Dangerous Tree Found In Jamaica
#jamaica #manchineeltree #OneLoveJamaica The world's most dangerous tree grows right here in Jamaica. Most people walk right past it. Known in Spanish as manzanilla de la muerte — the little apple of death — the manchineel tree (Hippomane mancinella) holds the Guinness World Record as the most dangerous tree on Earth. Every part of it is toxic. The bark. The leaves. The fruit. Even the rain that falls through its branches. In this episode of One Love Jamaica, we track down this deadly tree along Jamaica's coastline — uncovering its hidden presence, its deep roots in Caribbean history, and why the village of Manchioneal in Portland carries its name to this day. In this video: Why the manchineel is certified the world's deadliest tree The fruit that looks like an apple — and almost killed a radiologist How Carib warriors used its sap to poison their arrows How that same sap killed Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León in 1521 The UWI Mona research that discovered a previously unknown poisoning symptom Where the tree is found along Jamaica's coastline today Why Manchioneal, Portland is named after this deadly tree The manchineel tree is not just a botanical curiosity. It is a living chapter of Caribbean history — of indigenous knowledge, colonial encounter, and nature's most elegant warning. And it has been growing quietly in Jamaica all along. ISLANDS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD - Lands Adrift Across the Pacific Ocean | Travel video
Across the Pacific Ocean, thousands of islands are scattered across an area larger than all continents combined, but only a small number of them became giant worlds shaped by volcanoes, coral reefs, mountains, and deep blue waters. This travel documentary explores the hidden side of Oceania through massive islands surrounded by turquoise lagoons, isolated coastlines, and landscapes formed far away from major civilizations. From volcanic islands rising directly out of the ocean to remote communities living between cliffs, rainforests, and coral seas, the video reveals how life continues in some of the most isolated places on Earth. Many of these locations remained separated from the outside world for centuries, creating cultures, ecosystems, and environments unlike anywhere else across the Pacific Ocean. The beauty of Oceania is not only about beaches. Beneath the surface are underwater volcanoes, giant reef systems, rare wildlife, and islands shaped by tectonic forces over millions of years. Some islands receive only a small number of visitors each year despite having some of the clearest blue waters in the world. Others became important historical crossroads connecting Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Ocean. #travelvideo #exploretravel #oceantravel 00:00 Intro 01:19 Hayman Island – A resort island within the Great Barrier Reef coral system 04:00 Bora Bora – A volcanic island set in a turquoise lagoon 06:48 Saipan – An intersection of tropical geography and Pacific history 09:07 Moorea – A volcanic island with deep bays and sharp peaks 10:58 Aitutaki – A wide lagoon with an ancient coral atoll structure 13:18 Viti Levu – The core of terrain and daily life in Fiji 15:30 Waiheke Island – A wine island in the Hauraki Gulf 17:42 Mamanuca Islands – A chain of small islands in open waters 19:55 Hamilton Island – A transit point between the reef and luxury resorts 22:21 Vanua Levu – A pristine space between forest and sea 24:22 Grande Terre – A large island with the world’s longest lagoon 26:33 Guam – A junction of military, culture, and seascape 28:46 Tahiti – The center of the Polynesian tourism network 31:15 Whitsunday Islands – A fragmented archipelago in turquoise waters 33:22 Espiritu Santo – A large island with clear blue water and historical traces 35:24 Lifou – Coral cliffs and deep blue lagoons 37:39 Great Barrier Island – A remote island near urban areas with pristine ecosystems 39:36 Maui – A volcanic island with clearly layered landscapes 41:46 Raiatea – A sacred island with ancient volcanic structure and shared lagoon 44:15 Yasawa Islands – A chain of limestone islands stretching across deep ocean waters 46:54 K'gari (Fraser Island) – A massive sand island with rainforest growing on sand 48:53 Outro SOUNDTRIPE MUSIC CODE : QGT6QRXOHEJA6QOH, M8GWNIER1UJYV8LN, Z7BCEA2FHD3JIDOV, KG81ASYH9CRGR3SW, MCYJZUHGXQYGTA6R, WRFXN84VWMEGTDB7, KGJCMTC8BB9OAET4, RTKKTJPYPCWDDQRD, RLCGGH9IO8EGAZUJ, 7DK29YHFNG8SYNI5, XSDC6JA2G9BHYCV3, APSSE2Q1LGMM4SJD, DH5XNDIAEHMSM8FY, YZHVEAHI742E21JR, JYROFQ435KLQHJTC, C2RYI7SNL9YRTHE6, IBVBP2IAXRAQWTVQ, HNBWFYBVN5RJ5EV0, LZOHVWB6II9NKBPG, XBGARE2S2AVHXKEF, XHQ4XEWGV7ELN126, 8JVRAHRLZSMOXXBE, N24R2J0JUWABQIQ0,F2DVWDQTEHCOGEMF,JME9O3OSIZ1FIJ9Z, BQYBURW2PEJXGKNY, WVRAWYLAUNXTKN7E, ZSAZYGXJ5RXAM495, 3IV1WMYRPD8N6MPI, BKGVZHHQXAVOZCWN,STXWJXXDPR0T4YIM ,ZPRRBDXPWLCC2UKI,1L3Y2SOHYELAU706,OAVRR16ARVZG7FRU GGI0F718TMHAY1UC,6BHRRRPBPULOCVRZ,ZFX2SMF0KRKPL2EM,KIJL5NNZRW8DO90V, N9KL4VZBAQFRXDRO, S04GOT0ZQULQHOZT, 0CUPWF3NBTCSWYJI, 020PTKYFSZCYB8UC, CXLFOPW52NSQXWJM, EGCQRHUY2UGX09EB,7GGCJAOUDJOHOU6I, H6Z5YKG73QD8E1T3, ZF3PZNPDAU2LHDXE, 2D9EO8D8CLCLCCUV. WE VISITED MS.NICOLA GOWDIE IN CRANE ROAD BLACK ST.ELIZABETH JAMAICA 7 MONTHS POST HURRICANE MELISSA
Seven months after Hurricane Melissa devastated parts of Jamaica, we traveled back to visit Ms. Nicola Gowdie and her family to see how they are surviving after losing their home to the powerful storm. Many people around the world may remember Ms. Nicola from the heartbreaking videos and reports that were featured on major news stations including Fox News and CNN after the hurricane struck. When we first met Ms. Nicola just 2 days after the hurricane, the situation was heartbreaking. She and her family had gone days without food or water, struggling to survive after everything they owned was destroyed. By God’s grace, we were able to be the first people to bring food and support to Ms. Nicola and her family during one of the darkest moments of their lives. In this video, we revisit her seven months later to see the progress, the struggles that still remain, and to remind the world that families affected by disasters still need help long after the cameras stop rolling. Thank you to everyone who continues to support these families through your prayers, donations, and kind words. Please watch, share, and continue supporting families in need across Jamaica. ❤️ #HurricaneMelissa #Jamaica #BlackRiver #CraneRoad #NicolaGowdie #HurricaneSurvivor #DisasterRelief #RebuildingLives #JamaicaNews #CommunitySupport #StormRecovery #HumanityFirst #HelpingOthers #CaribbeanNews #LifeAfterTheStorm #JamaicanFamilies #WeatherDisaster #SupportJamaica #GivingBack #RealLifeStories #shanzenzen

Why So Many Portuguese People Still Live in Africa
Africa is home to millions of people, cultures, and histories but one connection stands out: the enduring presence of Portuguese people across the continent. From Angola and Mozambique to Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, Portuguese communities are not just a remnant of colonial history they are a living, thriving part of African life today. In this video, we explore why so many Portuguese people still live in Africa, tracing the story from colonial times to modern economic migration and cultural integration. Portugal’s ties to Africa go back over 500 years. Beginning in the 1400s, Portuguese explorers and traders established key trading posts along Africa’s coasts, eventually building settlements in Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe. Unlike other European colonial powers, Portugal was not wealthy, which meant many settlers were farmers, traders, and workers seeking opportunity rather than power. Over generations, they built farms, businesses, and communities that became deeply rooted in African society. The 1970s brought dramatic change. African nations began gaining independence, and Portuguese settlers faced uncertainty as political and social upheaval swept the continent. Nearly half a million Portuguese returned to Portugal during the “Retornados” crisis, leaving behind homes and businesses. Yet thousands stayed, often because they had mixed families, were born in Africa themselves, or simply considered the continent their home. These communities endured through independence, civil wars, and social change, preserving a unique cultural and linguistic heritage. In the 2000s, history took another twist. The 2008 financial crisis in Portugal pushed thousands of citizens to return to Africa in search of economic opportunities. Angola’s oil boom and Mozambique’s natural gas and mining growth attracted Portuguese professionals, entrepreneurs, engineers, and teachers. By 2012, more Portuguese nationals lived in Angola than Angolans in Portugal, reflecting a modern migration shaped not by empire, but by opportunity. Today, Portuguese communities in Angola, Mozambique, and other African countries continue to grow, blending seamlessly with local cultures while contributing to economic development. Culturally, Portuguese and African identities have merged. Luso-Africans speak Portuguese and Creole, enjoy both local and Portuguese cuisine, and celebrate music and traditions from both continents. Economically, the connection remains strong. Portuguese companies invest in African infrastructure, while African investors, particularly from Angola, contribute to Portuguese banks and real estate. Trade between Portugal and its former colonies reaches billions of dollars annually, creating a shared future built on collaboration, history, and opportunity. This video unpacks the historical, cultural, and economic reasons behind the enduring Portuguese presence in Africa. Discover how history, migration, and opportunity shaped these communities, and how two continents continue to connect through people who refuse to let borders define them.
