How to Prune a Mango Tree: The Right Way to Trim & Shape Bigger Trees
Learn how to prune a mango tree the right way! In Part 2 of our fruit tree pruning series, Connor from Incredible Edible Landscapes demonstrates how to trim, shape, and maintain larger mango trees for better airflow, manageable size, healthy growth, and future fruit production. Pruning a mango tree isn't just about cutting branches. Where you make the cut, when you prune, how much you remove, and which branches you keep can all affect how your tree grows and potentially how well it flowers and fruits the following season. In this video you'll learn: • How to prune larger and established mango trees • The best time of year to prune mango trees • Why pruning too late can interfere with flowering • How much of a mango tree you should prune at one time • How to open the center of a dense mango canopy • Why inward-growing and crossing branches should be removed • How sunlight and airflow affect productive branches • How to keep mango trees at a manageable picking height • When low branches should be removed • How to make larger pruning cuts correctly • Why the branch collar matters • How to correct an overgrown mango tree • What happens when a mango tree is severely cut back • How to handle freeze-damaged fruit trees • Whether you should fertilize after pruning • How mulch helps improve the soil around fruit trees • How to use your tree trimmings as mulch • Tips for cleaning and maintaining pruning tools Connor also demonstrates pruning several mango trees, including Kathy, Super Alphonso, and Honey Kiss, so you can see how pruning decisions change depending on the size, shape, and growth habit of the individual tree. Jamaica’s Secret Emancipation Tradition
#TopHill #JamaicaEmancipationDay #DonkeyRace Hill Donkey Race: Inside Jamaica's Most Unique Emancipation Day Tradition | St. Catherine Every August 1st, while Jamaica celebrates Emancipation Day, the small community of Top Hill in St. Catherine hosts one of the island's most unique cultural events — a donkey race unlike anything else in the Caribbean. These aren't ordinary animals. Most of the year, these donkeys haul sugar cane for local farmers. Once crop season ends, the community turns their working animals into the stars of a festival that's grown from a backyard idea in 1992 into a beloved tradition drawing visitors from across Jamaica and the diaspora. In this video, we take you inside Top Hill on Emancipation Day — the community spirit, the Jamaican flag colors on full display, the police keeping the crowd safe, and the children's race that makes this one of the most family-friendly events on the island. This is more than a race. It's a celebration of freedom, family, and what it means to be Jamaican. Whether you're from Jamaica, part of the diaspora in the US, UK, or Canada, or simply curious about authentic Jamaican culture beyond the beaches and resorts, this is the real Jamaica — rural, joyful, and rooted in history. 11 Ancient Structures in Jamaica No One Can Explain

11 Ancient Structures in Jamaica No One Can Explain
Jamaica has a 17th-century city lying on the floor of Kingston Harbour, three carved wooden gods that were carried out of a mountain cave in 1792 and shipped to the British Museum, and a gallery of paintings hidden 60 feet down a vertical shaft that no one has ever managed to date. Most of these places were built or carved centuries before Columbus arrived. Almost none of them have answers. In this video, we explore: → Three Taíno wooden gods, a rain-giver, a birdman, and a stand for hallucinogenic ritual snuff, found hidden together in a cave near a mountain summit in 1792, then taken to London, where they still sit in the British Museum → A rock shelter whose engravings are counted among the finest in Jamaica, scarred with modern graffiti before archaeologists could record figures whose meaning has never been recovered → A single human face carved into the wall of a cave above a freshwater sinkhole, in a cavern that holds almost no sign anyone ever lived there → A limestone wilderness the British army could never conquer and surveyors have still never fully mapped, holding Maroon and Taíno stonework no one has counted → The largest Taíno town ever found on the island, its burials 700 to 1,000 years old, with a modern highway cut straight through it → The largest building still standing from 17th-century Jamaica, and not one record says who raised it, when it was finished, or why → Hundreds of carved Spanish stones blending European gargoyles with Taíno spirits, and an argument that has never been settled over whose hands cut them → A Maroon stronghold the British burned in 1734, hidden so deep in the Blue Mountains that most of it has never been excavated → A gallery of Taíno paintings at the base of a 20-meter vertical shaft, never directly dated, with 13 figures no one has ever identified → 148 painted images in a cave so hard to reach that a heritage guide once reported no visitor had been inside in over two years And at number one: an entire 17th-century city of taverns, warehouses, and brick streets resting on the floor of Kingston Harbour under up to 40 feet of water. On the 7th of June, 1692, an earthquake liquefied the sand it was built on, and two-thirds of the town slid into the sea in minutes. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2025, and after seventy years of diving, only about 40 percent of it has ever been surveyed. The rest is still down there.
