13 Forbidden Places in Jamaica You're Not Allowed To Visit
Jamaica has a village that governs itself under a 1739 treaty, two-thirds of a 17th-century city lying under its harbour, and a 78,024-hectare karst interior it gazetted as a protected area, though mining leases still press its edge. Some of these places are closed by a statute, some by a coast guard, and one by a nation inside the nation that never surrendered. And the public is barred from all of them. In this video, we explore: → A no-take fish sanctuary where a warden can board your boat inside the buoys and seize your catch and gear. → A 15-kilometre sand spit with a single road, a Ramsar wetland, and a secured airport fence you cannot cross. → A dry forest sealed off because it holds the last wild population of a lizard once declared extinct. → A World War II US air base, closed since 1949 and now secured behind a military fence by the Jamaica Defence Force. → Two islands a shipping company nearly dredged into a port, saved and set aside as a wildlife sanctuary. → Four cays 51 kilometres offshore where trespass is an offence and a fishery inspector can arrest you without a warrant. → A Jamaica Defence Force live-fire range that was the scene of the killing of five men in 1978. → An 8,000-square-kilometre fishing bank 80 kilometres out, watched by a Coast Guard station, its shoals scattered with wrecks. → The headquarters of the Jamaica Defence Force, in the middle of Kingston, closed under the Defence Act. → A ruined 18th-century Maroon capital with no road to it, inside a UNESCO World Heritage core zone, reachable only on foot with a Maroon guide. → Two-thirds of a 1692 city under the harbour, divable only with a National Heritage Trust permit. → A 78,024-hectare karst interior gazetted as a protected area in 2022, with mining leases still pressing at its boundary. And at number one: Accompong, in the hills of Saint Elizabeth. Its people are Maroons who won their freedom and a treaty from the British in 1739, decades before the United States existed and more than two centuries before Jamaica became a country. The village elects its own leader and holds its land in common, and it opens for one celebration on January 6 each year. The sacred ground, including the Peace Cave where the treaty was sworn, stays closed to outsiders by Maroon law, and you can be turned back at the boundary. FREE BOOK 13 Creepiest Places in Jamaica. Roadside Food Seller Fed a Disabled Beggar Every Morning… Unaware a Billionaire Was Watching #tales
On a busy street in Calabar, a simple act of kindness changes everything. While others reject a disabled elderly man, a humble roadside food seller chooses compassion, feeding him every day without expecting anything in return. But what seems like an ordinary moment soon reveals something far deeper. When Ima, a successful businesswoman, notices this quiet act of kindness, she becomes curious—and that curiosity leads her into a life-changing discovery. A chance encounter, a familiar birthmark, and a hidden past begin to connect in ways no one could have imagined. What follows is a powerful journey of truth, lost love, and unexpected reunion, as long-buried secrets come to light and a broken family finds its way back together.
